Holy Crap! A self defense app! I think it would work better if she had a gun in her other hand....because threatening language from an official looking character on a phone is so much more effective than 230 grains at 900 fps....

I think someone wearing a lab coat and saying, "Stop, this person has AIDS, leave now or they will do their best to infect you" would work better.

Or, better yet, and acute case of lead poisoning

It's a FREE app. You get what you pay for.

It wouldn't hurt to have that app AND a concealed weapon.

If you've got that app, you're probably texting or playing on your phone, anyway.

I agree, but for those who will not use or carry a gun...............it just may be a good idy. I think women should use something like that before gettin in an Uber and send to friends and family members too and lots of other situations.

Face it, so many have their eyes glued to an I-Phone/Cell Phone anyway and are unaware of their surroundings, why not use that which is already there and in use/carried.

First dates or Craig's List meets ups to buy/sell ...................sure something like that to let them know up front they have been recorded and their/cars image sent to family or friends just in case.

We are lookin at this from our CCW/ gun owners/we will fight back even with a knife or whatever perspective...sad as it is many will not and are perfect victims.

Just sayin....................it is better than nothing for SOME folks.

And what if they are under 21 and can't legally own a handgun?

Anything they can use should be added to their toolbox.

You can't buy a handgun until you are 21. In many states you can own one at 18 and may be in possession of one at an even younger age.

BC...in no way, no how is brandishing a cell phone a viable option to defend one's self.....running away, screaming like a little girl is far more effective.

It is better than nuthin for those who will not use or try anything else, at least, the cops may get a pic of the rapist/killer/robber from that App to help solve the case...............I'm assuming it automatically sends an SOS/pic to an I-cloud or whatever that can be retrieved when that app icon is pressed???? If not, the attacker can steal and destroy the phone.

I somewhat agree Chief, but I would put it at the lowest point of better than nothing. Actually, if a woman doesn't feel comfy with a gun, get her a taser or a can of mace or both.

I believe that a real hardened sicko isn't going to be put off that easy. A good shot of mace or pepper to the face followed by a good proper tasing might get his attention though. But the bottom line is a gun is the best along with some lessons and practice.

I don't know. Realizing that up to the point she I-phoned him, he'd done nothing wrong except act menacing manner. Not a shooting situation, but getting to a point where some action is called for. I seriously doubt it would deter a mugger or rapist, he'd just take the phone and do a Hillary Clinton on it with a clawhammer.

How about an app that automatically begins recording audio, video, and GPS coordinates to a 'cloud' when a one push 911 call is made. Give it a catchy name and advertise it heavily, so that the phone can broadcast it in a short, loud message that most perps will understand. Sure, it will not work for a fairly high percentage of situations. But if it works 10% of the time for prevention, and 50% of the time for identifying perps after the fact, it might save a life occasionally. It might be the best chance some folks would ever have.

Of course, too many people would place too high of an expectation on it actually working, and get some people hurt or killed unnecessarily, but it's a crap shoot, anyway, for those who won't prepare for a more logical defense. For others, like me, I could start pumping lead while my wife was giving the perp a shiny object to focus on. :tooth:
