Well said! I think this is key.

Agreed. I should have expounded on my post about being "hunting fun". Knowing the kind of hunter you are, I am sure it is not real easy to take shots at any animal that you know gives a chance at only wounding. I am the same way.

    Not fair, Zee.....

You drop more edible meat with one shot on an eradication hunt than I dropped on eradication hunts over 7 years and probably 75,000 shots.

Maybe there's a good pdog recipe out there, but a high speed V-Max doesn't leave much for the pot.

    I'm jealous.

I am always amazed at how FUGLY these wild pigs are compared to their domestic brethren!

    Nice report as always, Zee.

It took some getting used to and in truth, it took the farmer showing me 30 acres of destroyed corn crop last year for me to really accept, "Game On!"

Kind of like me shooting pdogs during pup season. (an aside....most of the YouTube videos that highlight exploding pdogs cartwheeing 15 feet through the air are actually 150 - 200 yard shots at pups that are trying to acclimate to sunshine for the first time.) I never liked doing that. But...

One rancher explained it very well...

"A mature 3 YO 'dog has a year or so left of digging in him. A pup has 4 - 5. Kill the pups for me, and then you can shoot all the old ones that are left. That's how you get to come back."

That's eradication at it's primal level. For every 500 yard shot I got at a 2 lb pdog, I probably killed 8 five ounce pups at 200.

    Another thing I learned..

It's not the elders that expand the town. It's the elders driving off the young ones from their own established feeding/breeding grounds that cause a colony to expand.

You'll never contain a dogtown by rifle fire by shooting its middle. You may slow it down by fiercely shooting its edges. Even then, you're still gonna loose the war.

I figure this is like shooting feral pigs. Get the young and dumb as fast as you can.

Reminds me of an old joke. It's not family friendly, though, so I'll leave it at that.

A BLOG is a weB Log. This thread is basically a public BLOG. A Private or individual BLOG is a one sided conversation about your experience. Like being a reporter but on your subject of choosing.

I meant, a larger caliber at a high velocity. Not necessarily higher than yours.
