Post Irma check in thread

knitepoetknitepoet Senior MemberPosts: 17,078 Senior Member
With as many members that have been affected by Irma, I thought I'd start this thread so that either they can check in themselves, OR members that have been in contact with them can let the rest of us know.

Ones I know about
Breamfisher and Zorba have both sent me texts this morning, neither has power but no major damage (still have houses)

Diver43 has posted today

So, if you've heard from someone in the storm area, please let us know who, and if you were in the path and have forum access, check in PLEASE!

Bugged out, heard from neighbors, all good, no power. Heading back tomorrow. Jupiter area.

Update: left Mooresville, NC Tuesday morning at 0945, arrived in Daytona Beach around 0200 this AM. Crashed at friend's house, was seeing elephants on the road.......
Back on the road in a few hours then see what a 2:30 hour drive turns into!!!

No worries, I'm still in Wisconsin, but it's only light rain and a slight breeze in PC!

I am in Jacksonville, no damage to my house. Over 10 inches of rain and a bunch of small branches is all. The wind is still howling away so I expect a lot more branches will fall

I'm good and house is fine. Lost a giant mango tree, large ornimental tree, 200 ft of fence, and had to remove 15 ficus hedge trees to unblock driveway. No power no internet. I need a chainsaw and tow straps and two men for two days to clear up things.

Mango trees are deadly! Wood is so dense/heavy it does not float. I remember a relatively small branch coming off our neighbors and chopping the station wagon parked on their driveway basically in half!

Good to know you're OK; saw on TV some news footage allegedly from Ft. Lauderdale showing people looting a store in the middle of the storm...not food or basic goods but clothing and electronics that were being loaded SUVs and cars.

Power just came back on. We are discouraged from showering or flushing until they get city sewer up and running. Too many lift stations went off-line.

All fine in Port Saint Lucie. Lost power for about 24 hours but no damage and had generator for power. A good day to say a prayer for those not as fortunate as us to relax and to realize our blessings.

As i was surveying damage and beginning clean up yesterday, I realized it was 9-11. Missed the rememberance and ceremonies, but did take a moment to remember those that had it much worse than i on that date. I apologize for almost forgetting.

Heard from him just before the storm. Him and whirlybird were sent to a safer area.
Would not be surprised if he was very busy these days

Just got TV and internet back about an hour age, never lost power, didnt lose any trees but lots of limbs, leaves, etc. to clean up, Rain, lots , I put the drain plugs in the boats to let them fill up, with the weight of the water they never moved, the skiff had about 14" of water in it almost to the top of the gunwale, weather channel said we had 88mph winds, today our refrigerator died. Other than that were all Ok 3 dogs, 7 puppys, 4 cats, 1 snake, Jen and I.

I heard that Merritt island, where Zorba lives had far more power outages and damage than us, anyone hear from him, I dont have his phone # our I would have called him.

Good to hear you 2 are okay.

Jaywapti, I've gotten a couple of texts from Zorba, he's without power but his generator is doing its job.

BigAl, SS3 posted on another thread in the General Shooting forum, so apparently he's okay

I'm alive and well, wasn't tracking this thread. I appreciate the concern. Busy past week, not the kind of work I'd prefer, but you can't win them all.

Take care of yourself SS3. The other day I saw 4 Chinooks flying south. Thankfully, they kept going.

Good to hear everyone is O.K.
The FL Keys got slammed. Haven't heard since yesterday, but the roads/bridges in the Keys are a mess, and as of yesterday there was no vehicle traffic to Key West. Got a carrier and some other ships supplying water and food to the folks in the Keys by helicopter. The carrier is making lots of fresh water for drinking. They're using helicopters to check on folks in the Keys where the roads and bridges haven't been inspected yet. And since water and electricity come from the mainland along the bridges, and they have neither, I suspect there was some heavy damage. Went through that when I was stationed in Key West when a storm took out water and electricity.
