It will be my 57th opening day.
I must admit that with all the crap thats been happening lately ( family problems etc) I am not as prepared as I am normally and dont seem to have as much enthusiasm as I have had in past years.

I will be shooting 'solo' this year. My buddy Gb who normally shoots with me wont be coming...........we seem to have lost touch and his Parkinsons; has impacted to a great extent so Bh and I will be heading out in separate boats to greet the dawn on saturday. Forecast is for fine weather, no cloud or wind and probably a frost overnight tomorrow. Once again the tides are not kind and we will be spending friday night in our 12' boats under the stars.

I am looking forward to giving the new Remington V3 a workout...........but one of my trusty 1187's will be on board 'just in case' lol.

Will take my camera/phone this time so I can post up some pics.

Despite my younger sister knowing that opening weekend is the one weekend out of the year that I am not available for anything family related...........She went ahead and planned my nephews wedding for opening day. The reason she chose this coming sat was because its the first weekend of the the wedding venues 'winter rates'; and it saved them a couple of hundred bucks.

I offered to pay the difference when they were in the planning stages but they refused my offer. The wedding starts at 2pm sat..........because of the tides, I wont get enough water to leave the shooting spot till about 2.pm, by the time I get back to the ramp, haul the boat out, shower change and drive the 80k's to the venue it will be all over. Guess the show will go on without me.

Will check in here probably on monday.
Still enjoying the trip of a lifetime and making the best of what I have.....

Have a good time, my friend. And stay safe

    Good luck with the hunt.

I sympathize with the 'distractions' from your personal traditions. I know how much harder it is to have a good time, with so many things on your mind, but a man should continue living his life as much as possible, even when under the heavy burden of taking care of family matters. Believe me when I say from experience that your other family members will still be trying to follow their own pursuits, however much they think they are 'shouldering the load,' whenever you are briefly absent.

Shoot straight and be safe, partner.

Have fun hunting. Don't worry about those you're related to .
I've thankfully learned that "you have to, they are the only family you have" is one of the biggest lines of BS ever told.
No, you DONT have to. There's many ass holes in the world, and they all have family. You may be one of the "lucky" ones that happens to be related.

My family has always had the good sense not to interrupt my hunting and fishing, but some of my other interest has not always been so gracious. I belong to the York Rite of Masonry and for many many years we alwas had our yearly inspection once a year and they always scheduled it on opening day of Deer Season. Blasphemy! I used to sacrifice for this, but the last 3 years I've told em if you want me involved don't schedule it for the first couple weekends in November. After 25 years they finally wised up, Only after I quit showing up.

One big problem with people is that What's important to you is never quite as important as what's important to them.

Fine weather predicted down here also orchidman
Seems like the last few years if you want to pick a wedding date for an outdoor  ceremony you should choose opening day in New Zealand

I too will be shooting a V3 , second season with mine, highly recommend this gun and I've had a few in my time. Miroku u/o in the truck as backup.

Six for six at the moment. Would have been 7......but the last drakes partner did a kamikaze when I dropped her mate and flew straight at me. Had to ' duck' to avoid the collision.
Hah.....while typing this a single drake  came in so I dropped my phone in the bilge  snapped a quick shot from the V3 and he is coming to my place for dinner.

    3 to go..........
