Oh yeah, almost forgot. I went hunting yesterday morning. I got there just before it got light. Nothing seemed to be moving until about 8 AM. Then things started to happen. First, 3 does came to my feeder. I've already shot one doe this year so I figured I'd wait on a buck, so I let them pass. They didn't stay long and took off for points beyond. I think since the bucks were chasing them they smelled one.

Anyway, then I look down sendero to the north, I come in from the south, and there's Hogzilla. I don't normally shoot boars, at least not BIG Boars, but then here comes a smaller one behind him. I thought it was a sow so I shot. But I missed. As soon as I pulled the trigger the rifle slumped down and the crosshairs were just below the deer when I shot. This was about 275-300 yards so I know I shot under it. Then, not 5 minutes later the smaller one came back into the sendero heading the opposite way, so I took another shot, this time with a steadier hold on the rifle. As soon as I shot, I knew it was good. and the hog bolted into the brush. That was about 8:30 AM.

Then about 9 or so six does came back to the feeder. Then I saw bucks. But they were just under legal width. I saw one buck briefly through the gaps beside my feeder that was a shooter, but I never could get on him. They don't get old by accident. Then I decided to shoot another doe. She was nice and fat. So I took the shot. It was a bang flop kill. I stayed in the blind for another 30 minutes incase that big buck would show him self. But nothing more showed up.

I went to the car and drove back to where I shot the doe. I loaded her up in my vehicle and then drove down the sendero to where the hog I shot was and started beating the brush. I saw where it looked like it ran in in the brush. I had to almost kneel to get under the brush. Then I was in an opening that lead around to right and when i looked right, there was my hog, stone cold dead. It wasn't a sow, it was a BIG Boar that weighed over 200 pounds. And this was the small one. I wonder now just how big the other one was? It looked twice as big. It's cold out today so I've got both the deer and the hog hanging. n

Well I have a light at the corner of the house that's equivelant to a 150 Watt bulb that lights it up pretty well. Anything brighter might keep the neighborhood up all night,

He looks pretty ragged but that's because I had him in an ice chest with two 20 pound bags of ice on him. He was too big for me to close the lid. He's soaking wet from the ice melting in these pics.

Way to go Snake! That's a lot of meat the buddy. You know you really should never let a hog go. I know shooting them we will never get rid of them but not shooting them is even worse!

Yeah I understand Tim and I agree. But I was starting to see deer and I wasn't even going to shoot the one I shot, but temptation got the best of me, LOL!!! But you're right, we need to kill everyone we see. And I will after I get me a nice buck.

Tonight, I just got through butchering him. Talk about a ton of meat! And it smelled surprizingly good for a Boar. I called a guy that needs work and he helped me butcher Hogzilla. The doe is in the cooler with ice soaking up blood and draining out. I'm going to let her sit for about a week before I cut her up and bag and freeze it.

Now that Obama finally authorized fall to happen, all the animals are moving good. I have two weeks of deer hunting left, unless I can get hold of a smoke Poll in the style of Woodsrunner or Teach, because there's a special muzzle loading season in January and I would love to be able to hunt in it. But I will still hunt most days between now and Jan. 3 until a nice buck screws up and gives me a shot.

Yeah Jayhawker, when i saw the poor thing all tangled up, I just couldn't let him suffer,

Actually, at that stage, I was just too damn tired to even cut the ropes off of him.

All that came about when I was trying to get him into the back of my Suburban. I had ropes all over him. Dang thing weighed a whole lot, like about 250, and with my neuropathized legs, when I would almost have him in, the left leg would go out and the right was pretty shaky.

I shot the hog about 8:30 A.M. and the deer at about 9:15 A.M. I got the deer in the car, but since the hog weighed in about double that of the deer, I couldn't quite hoist the hog inside. I tried everything from gutting him to looping the rope around a horizontal fence post and pulling it with my car. But when I did that, the ropes were so taught, I couldn't push him inside. I ended up pulling it a mile and a half to the barn (On Soft Grass, of course) where there was a single tree and water. I stayed there the rest of the day trying every trick in the book. I gutted the hog, and tried every angle imaginable. I called several people and hardly anybody answered. The one answer I got was from one of the other lease members. He was at work. He finally got off at 6 PM and came and helped me get it in the car.

I got home at 7:15 P.M. I knew one guy that would have helped me, but I didn't want to leave the hog by itself on the ground to go to town and get him. Coyotes. He doesn't have a car OR a phone. He's very poor and I'm always giving him odd jobs for $20 or so, and he's happy. (He actually came over yesterday to help me do the hog and so I gave him half the hog and he was thrilled.) When I got home I put the hog in a 150 Quart Marine Ice Chest and put two 20 pound bags of ice on top of him. The lid wouldn't close and his four legs and feet and his head were hanging out. I hoisted the doe into the tree and let her hang all night. It was good and cold out that night. Then the next day I quartered the deer out and hung the hog. The deer is still in the ice chest for a few more days. I finally got the hog cut up yesterday and it's in my freezer.
I was so tired that first night that I just got under the shower and sort of hosed off. Then I calapsed into bed.

Moral to this story, never shoot anything you can't lift.

PS: The funny thing is I almost shot his buddy, which looked to be twice his size. Now THAT! Was the Real Hogzilla!!!

Well, it's sort of warm today, in the 70s, it's misting a little, and Probably hunting Sucks, but what else I got to do? I'm gonna repeat it, So, "Heck with This! I'm goin Huntin'"

Congrats on the big hog and deer! I got a 201 lb hog myself this last weekend. I will get around to posting when I get the chance.

More than ever I'm wanting that pop up blind rigth now. Deer season's almost done for this year, but hogs are always in season. And though I probably won't have the opportunity to hunt this exact place next year, There's another pasture south of where we hunt toward the highway. My friend Mark has seen some monsters on it and he said the landowner may lease it to me cheaper than the lease i'm on. Mark says there's not near as many deer, but every buck he's seen there has been a trophy. If I lease that part I'll plant me a couple acres of oats in the middle and put four feeders, one in each corner, on it. That will not only draw more deer, but also hogs.

Anyway, seeing as that place has far less trees and brush, that popup blind would be ideal.
