    Question Rossi 38 Special

My wife, a/k/a TKOTCB, or the keeper of the check book, has found a 5 round 4" barrel Rossi 38 that she likes. She has small hands, so it fits her well. The gun does not appear to have been shot much. The cylindar locks up tight, with no play. The stocks are pristine, as is the blueing. They are asking $225.00 out the door. Does anyone have any experience with Rossi revolvers ? My own experience with Rossi firearms is limited to a model 94 lever action in .357 mag and a .22 gallery model slide action. Both were well made and preformed without incident. I gave the model 94 to a grandson, in Indiana, after they made center fire rifles in pistol calibers, legal to hunt deer......Robin

Rossi is owned by Taurus, $225 out the door is not a bad price. I had one of the Rossi snubbies in .357 mag that shoots pretty decent. Quality wise it is nothing close to my S&W wheel guns but it works fine none the less.

    Re: Rossi 38 Special

I had an older Rossi, pre Taurus model. GREAT gun for the money. The trigger was very, very good. Fit was not bad, not a show piece by any means, but acceptable. It was a snubby, but shot fantastic. It was one of those "this gun should not shoot this good" type of deals.

    Wish I still had it....

Now, how they are since Taurus bought them? Cant answer that.

Taurus did buy Rossi a number of years ago , but Rossi remains an independant company. Their revolver quality has always been way above that of a Taurus. I'd buy it and trust it.

For around the same money you can get a S&W at Buds....

Although, I don't own a Rossi, I'd take one in a heartbeat over a Taurus.

I'd rather have my sister work in a whorehouse than own another Taurus!

Is she going to shoot it a lot or just have it for safety?
For safety VS no gun I'd buy it for Clean if she wanted it.
Moving up to supervisor, Clean paints and I watch.

I have a stainless Rossi 38 and owned a blue frame 357 a while back. Very satisfied with them but bought mine for a bit less. Considering S&W 38's are "selling" for just a bit more, I would hold out for a Smith but, that's me. If she really feels comfortable with that one, wave $200 in front of owner and see what he says. Here's an example of "used selling" Smith that I'm referring to.

Quite popular over here back in the '80s. If you can find a similar S&W for almost the same price, go for the latter.

They're perfect for someone who is not gonna make shooting a hobby , but wants a good affordable and reliable personal protection revolver. If yer on a budget , a Rossi for $200 is just as good as a Smith for $400.
