I'm doing my part to support the firearms and accessories industry, or......

is this like having too much toilet paper?

My most recent purchases are as follows:
    Cheaper than dirt:
10 Boxes of PMC 9mm bronze FMJ ammo 115 grain @ 50 rounds each
    8 Boxes of Federal Classic Hi-Shok Jacketed Hollow-Point 115 grain @ 50 rounds each

    Brownells:
    20 Boxes PMC FMJ 55 grain .223 Remington @ 20 rounds each
    10 Boxes Hornady Zombie-Max .223 @ 20 rounds each
    10 PMAG 30 round magazines
    3 Magpul Maglink Magazine couplers
    1 Magazine LULU Strip Loader

About 4 or 5 months ago I was asking here about Red-Dot reticle sights, and based on some recommendations from some of you, I purchased the LUCID HD7. When I first received it, I didn't think it was going to help me for what I wanted it for, until I subsequently purchased the 2X magnifier for it, and that made a big improvement on the sighting of it, so I expect that I will be able to be a bit more accurate in shooting my AR with this.

Question about the PMAG Magazines: they fit a little tight for my taste. I'm wondering if something can be done to make them slide in and out a little easier. Should I sand the corners with some fine sandpaper?

What you have there is commonly referred to as an arsenal, by the media, making you a right-wing extremist paramilitary militia type.

The UN gun police may be visiting you in a few months.

Hahaha....the picture only shows what I got "recently." I can't wait for those blue helmet eh-holes. This so-called "arsenal" is probably tiny compared to what others on this forum have. Besides 60% of the ammo I purchased is for target shooting. I'm trying to bulk up for the SE shoot, which I am going to try to make it to this year.

Good shopping!!! Don't sand the PMAGs. Just use them and normal wear will take care of it. I LIKE the fact that they start out a little snug. I HATE mags that rattle in the well.

Make the shoot! Its a good time.

Im curious as to how that PMC shoots in your gun. It shoots crappy in my AR. 1.25" groups, as opposed to 1/2" with my handloads. Its good quality mind you, but my AR doesnt like the way it tatses.

I really am going to try. The only thing that would get in the way is my wife's health. She has been sick for a good while, and I have been acting as caregiver and cook sometimes. If she is well enough to stay alone for 4 or 5 days, I will be there. The reason I say 4 or 5 days is I'm going to drag my motorcycle there too, so I can ride around the hills in TN and possibly west NC for a bit while I'm up there. Maybe someone else with a bike could show me around the better parts of central TN.

As to your question, I really can't give a good answer to you. I shot about a hundred rounds of PMC through it soon after the initial purchase, and it all fired well. As far as good target groups, I can't tell you. I fired it in the back yard of a friend with a 5 acre spread on a slight downhill incline. I was shooting targets at about 50 yards from a standing position, and you always get a small amount of barrel movement that way, so I was probably lucky if I got all of the shots in the central area let alone in tight groups, and was aiming with the stock iron sights. Everything considered, the ammo seemed reliable enough from a function point of view, and residue in the chamber and barrel was not excessively dirty. My DPMS is chambered for 5.56 NATO or .223 Remington if that makes any difference. I think your hand-loads are probably superior, since if you know what your doing, I think that would make a big difference in accuracy. Also, there is probably better commercial ammo available for target accuracy called "Match" quality that I have seen advertised on websites that carry it.

1.25" from basically bulk ammo meant to spray the burm with is quite Ok. I've used PMC in three gun matches etc. and it was fine for short distance run'n'gun.

1.25" groups are pretty tolerable from an AR with relatively cheap ammo. Anything under 2" with the cheap stuff is good enough for me, but then again I don't often shoot my AR's off the bench for tiny groups.

Nice stash, I'm a big fan of PMAGs. If you're going to keep them loaded though I'd probably use caps that come with them to keep pressure off the feed lips.

Thanks, and yeah I like them too. I bought some about 2 years ago along with those couplers to hold 2 together for quicker reloading of the rifle. The only reason I got ten of them was at the time Brownells only had it in blocks of 10, so I was kind of forced into it. At least I won't need any more for a while (until the next gun-ban scare). Yes, I will definitely use the provided caps when I load them. I'm anxious to try out that LULU loader too.

Absolutely. Its crazy though, the difference between the PMC and my handloads.

My AR weighs 11 pounds. I HAVE to shoot it off a bench.

That looks pretty good. I checked it on Mapquest, and you can tell the topography is starting to get rough and the roads get twistier as you head towards Chattanooga and the mountains.. The kind of areas I love to ride in.

Am I the only one that thinks Pmags are not the greatest thing since sliced bread? I don't see the need to refit my arsenal with the latest "vundermag" when I have a butt-load of USGI mags that haven't failed me yet....I see their value....but if it's not broke, I don't need to fix it...ya know? Same goes for ammo......surplus 55 gr seems to hit within an inch with both a 1:8 and 1:9 barrel....that's "cheap" ammo and Hornady TAP (weight varies). Haven't really had to handload for 5.56 yet...so that unknown territory for now. Sure I'd love to be shooting 62 gr....but it's Hen's teeth for the moment...so I make do.

Who said replacing? Plenty of them rattly GI issue mags here even some vintage Colt 20 round mags. It's just that when I add to the stash I now buy PMAGs.

My next AR mags will be PMags, but that's because they're cheaper than the AR Stoners I've been buying. But if the AR Stoners are on sale when I make the buy, I'll probably go with those. As for handloading: I'm cheap and it gives me something to do. When I buy bullets to reload plinking ammo I get whatever's in stock and cheapest. Last time it was Armscor, next time it might be Hornady.

Highway 129, in Eastern TN, running along the Western side the Great Smoky Mountains National Forest is known as "The Dragon's Tail ", or simply "The Dragon" to many. It is America’s #1 motorcycle and sports car road, with 318 curves in 11 miles.
