AutoZone Fires Worker Who Stopped Robbery

Piss on AutoZone, I'll do my future business elsewhere.

I don't like their parts anyway but as wrong as this is he knew the rules. If you disagree with the company rules work somewhere else or be prepared to face the consequences.

Buford, there's rules... and then there's right. The one-time employee has, apparently, accepted the fact of his termination, and is firm in the belief he did the right thing.

Reminds me of the story a few years back where a school staffer (a military reservist if memory serves) witnessed a disturbed student begin a shooting rampage, running out to his vehicle where his service pistol was otherwise legally stored, and stopping the junior gunman as he was driving from the high school to continue his activities at the nearby elementary school.

It stinks that the corporate juggernaut with inflexible rules fired him at this time of year and this time in his life, but I have a feeling someone else will pick up a valuable and appreciated employee after this.

Vote with your feet, and your dollars- - - - - -I stopped buying McDonald's products after three of the students at the high school where I taught were murdered during a robbery at a McDonalds near Nashville, and then the company tried to fire a janitor who broke up an armed robbery by shooting two scumbags in Texas a few months later. They haven't gotten any of my money in close to 20 years. I don't do business with Auto Zone anyway, but this incident just reinforces my opinion of the place.

Yep, and he gets to live within the rules. 2A is no different than the 1A, you have a right to voice your opinion, however if you do it in a way which affects your employer adversely or defies his rules, you accept the consequences.

That also means that I don't have to go to Autozone. They get to live with their decision also, and all the consequences.

The guys action to stop the robbery was good and could be a good item for his resume. Hopefully he will get a better job than a clerk at Autozone. The only thing missing was a tripple tap of the criminal. Later,

Re: AutoZone Fires Worker Who Stopped Robbery

I wonder what would have happened if it had been a customer that left the shop, armed himself and returned to stop the robbery.
Would the company ban the customer from all its stores? Sue him for breaching the 'No Guns' policy? Pat him on the back and reward him.?

I like the LEO's comment about how the company has just indicated that they are a 'soft' target for robbers.

Mental note to self:When visiting the US, dont shop at Autozone........there is a possibility that they may be targeted more than other similar companies.

Hope the ex-employee receives many job offers due to his public display of loyalty, something that is more and more lacking in society in my experience.

Screw Autozone. There's one in my general area, but now I'll never shop there again. These people are morons for having rules that would prevent saving someone's life. That young man was interviewed on Greta last night, and IMO that guy deserves a medal, not a discharge. The life he saved was the store manager....what jerks they are. I would love to see a known conservative offer this guy a job that is better than what he had.

It will be even softer, now that the scummers have been informed of the no-gun policy.

He foils a crime, gets brief media praise then gets sh*t on... He should be a cop. He already has experience with the backlash for doing the right thing...

I'm done with Autozone, and Mickey D's as well . My $$ can and will be spent else where. The sheriff shouldn't worry about crooks seeing Autozone being a soft target, they don't read so good no how.

    This^

Apparently the guy wasn't so worried about the no gun policy to actually tell them why they wouldn't be enjoying his abilities as an employee BEFORE he agreed to work for them and accepted a paycheck. On the other hand, if Autozone wants both employees and customers to be sheep, then sheep is what they'll get.

They had the worker on CBS this morning. Normally I don't watch that sort of stuff, but when I saw he was on, I stopped.

He said he knew he might in trouble for doing it, but that he was more concerned for the other people. Also, he's had quite a few job offers. They're in construction in various aspects, but he's got job offers.

It seems that many companies (Auto Zone, Walgreens, Pizza Hut, etc) have paid for the same "security analyst"..."Compliance is better than confrontation"....Yep, brilliant plan,...Sorry, I'm just not wired that way...Screw that, I have every intention of doing my best to go home after work... Take all the money you want, but attempt to herd me into the back room? I think not....

That particular AZ is not even in a "bad" part of town. Just goes to show ya it can happen anywhere..

I wonder about the perp, though.. he had three parts stores, four fast food joints, and a bank all on the same block..

The perp got away- - - - -now he can do it again. If he's in my sights and there's still a threat, most likely I'm going to be the only one leaving the scene under my own power. I've never seen an armed robber get paroled from the graveyard.
