Evil Black Rifle vs Evil Black Pig - Which is better in the field?

Definitely the evil black rifle! LOL
I dropped this one with a head shot using my DPMS AP4 LR308. Ammo used was hand loads topped with Hornady 165 grain SST's. The pig came out at almost 190 yards and never looked up, he dropped like a stone. This is the 4th big boar I have taken this season, there seems to be a lot of them around here this year.

Here is a pic looking back at the blind, it is the little black square just to the left of the feeder leg about half way up.

Thanks, the Leupold mark IV was supposed to be installed on the FD308 I have been waiting on for almost 4 months now but I'm really liking it on this rifle. I just may have to risk divorce and buy another one cause this one I think is going to stay where it's at.

Not to worry my friend we shoot all on sight without exception. A couple weeks ago one of the neighbors stopped by and asked us to shoot any we see over the fence on his property too. They do way too much damage so they are not well liked here in Texas.

Nice piggy. You're slaying them this year!
Lord, make me fast and accurate. Let my aim be true and my hands faster than those who would seek to destroy me. Grant me victory over my foes and those that wish to do harm to me and mine. But Lord, if today be the day that you call me home, let me die in a pile of empty brass.

Nicely done. Is there a correlation to the lack of shootable deer you are seeing with the amount of pigs in the area?

Actually we are seeing more deer than usual just not mature animals so its hard to say. 20 years ago we had a lot of deer that were nice and the population did drop as we saw the pig population increase but we also had some bad neighbors for a while that really shot the place up next door. I think we are starting to come back from that more than anything

No the cutters weren't that long, haven't seen any good ones on the pigs taken so far this year.

Re: Evil Black Rifle vs Evil Black Pig - Which is better in the field?

Got back home this afternoon,I didn't find that big buck but I had a nice quiet time in the woods. I did drop a few pigs and put crosshairs on a couple of does but decided to let them grow a while. I did get my meat deer so all is well. The DPMS LR308 took another pig last night and this one was actually edible! This sow was a nice short easy shot. she was about 80 pounds and almost as big around as she was tall. She has been eating well!

Here too Tim. I have recovered 4 hogs this year, although I hit two that I didn't. There everywhere. I know they're a supreme pest, but I do love shooting and eating them.

Right now, I won't chance under gunning because I am primarily trying to kill Ol' Mossy Back Buck that lives to the southeast of my feeder. But once deer season is over, I plan on using my .223 on hogs. I figure a 60 grain HP to the head will do.

It should, just stay away from the Vmax and othe varmint type bullets. I have hit hogs in the head with my 22-250 loaded with Vmax bullets and had them roll 3-4 times then get up and run with a patch of fur missing and a headache but no penetration. With the SST's I like to stay in the .30 cal range.
