How did you install your VTAC (or CTAC) sling???

I know a few here have slings on their AR's. I was just getting ready to order 2 slings and was wondering if I need to order stock swivels or not? No problem ordering them if they work better than looping thru the stock. Hopefully I glean the experience of those who have tried them both.

Is that the stock you have?

I use a QD swivel on the back and "HK" hook on the front attached to a magpul attachment. On another rifle I use a second QD in the handguard.

His RRA has three sling swivels on the gas bock (Left,Right,Bottom), no problem there.

I'm still searching (used hopefully <$) for a free float tube (hard to find mid-length forearms used) to put on mine. Then put a swivel on the tube.

On one, I have the HK Hooks front and rear to hook onto a Magpull loop thingie in the front and sling plate in the rear.

That's part of what I'm trying to figure out before hand. Where is the best placement to carry, and use for off hand support? And which ones just get in the way...

I'll try and get a pic of the plate. No idea what kind it is.

With my VTAC, I have the QD on the stock and the buckle portion on the handguard, just forward of the magwell.

I find that the rear QD on the magpul stocks is a pretty decent location. Recently I've switched to attaching the QD swivel to the opposite (right) side of the stock which seems to fit just a bit better and get in the way a bit less. I used to attach the front to the gasblock mounted swivel, but found the sling seemed to get in the way all the way up front. I now attach maybe halfway back on the handguard which keeps it out of the way for offhand shooting with a more forward trip like in your picture.

I don't have a recent picture, but here it is how I used to have the sling attached:

I now have one of these attached to the middle slot on the MOE handguard:

On my other AR (a bit hard to see with black on black) I have a QD attachment a few inches forward of the mag well.

I highly recommend this one if it fits your budget:

Otherwise the MOE hand guard is a pretty nice upgrade although not FF.
