Re: Ethanol and oxygenated gas - love, hate or don't care?

In my old car I was madly in love with E85, but it had nothing to do with the environment. Had a bit to do with cost (race fuel is about 3x the cost and even premium was always 2$ min higher). Raw power, I was using it as a race fuel alternative and it worked. I was able to run higher PSI on the turbo, the burn rate was better, and the torque increase was enough to toast my clutch in 3 days (I do take most of the blame on that for my right foot)

Haven't had the current vehicle long enough to really make a comment, plus I don't know where to get non-ethanol added gasoline around here. Haven't really paid attention.

MHS: I would 've sworn I had a site book marked for finding ethanol free gas stations. But no.
But i did find this one: http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=AR

I checked my state to confirm the few I know of. You'll see a lot that say "unbranded" Here that just means a mom and pop or whatever. Or are at a marina. At least here. Hope this will help you or others.

p.s. You click your state then it goes by city alphabetically so there may be lots of scrolling.

Ethanol-free gas is available, as close as your nearest general aviation airport. Of course, you might have to resort to a little bribery of the fuel pump jockey, as avgas prices don't have road tax added, and it's supposed to be illegal to use in motor vehicles. I used to buy 100 octane alcohol-free avgas for the race car, and mix a little Dykem blue machinist's dye with it to resemble the 106 octane racing fuel we were required to buy from the race track. It actually ran better than the straight race fuel because the 9:1 compression ratio engines we were supposed to run couldn't use the race gas efficiently.

    Dan,

in my neck of the woods, Shell sells non-ethanol blend gas. It's a little higher than the gas from other places, but well worth it in my opinion.
