With Schumer, Durban, Menendez, McCain and Graham involved, this is going to be another big joke, like the Reagan amnesty. The Republicans put in all the stuff needed to make this work, then when the Democrats renege on that part, they bend over and grab their ankles. We will end up with 11 million new Democrats, no reform, and no border security. They got Rubio and Flake in on the deal to make it look legitimate, but there is a poor likelihood that the final plan will be anything close to what they thought they were agreeing to.

I am for immigration reform of some kind, especially programs that make it easier for well educated professionals to work here rather than taking their human capital overseas to our competitors. I also recognize the simple fact that deporting 11 Million people is not logistically or financially feasible. However we also don't have to grant them citizenship. I'd be much more in favor of setting up a similar process to grant them legal resident alien status rather than citizenship. A path to greencard should be where legislation like this goes rather than path to citizenship.

It's a heck of a lot more expensive than you think. ERO (enforcement and removal operations) take up a huge chunk of ICE's already large budget. At least $5-10k per deportation.

Have you seen our legal system? Read the constitution? Due process of law? You have to detain them and give them a proper legal hearing, usually with court appointed legal representation, THEN you can get to the part where you transport them back to whence they came. There is a limit to the number of detention beds available and the number of judges, lawyers, etc.

Like I said, if you want to reform something start there. There is no reason someone who's crime is being here illegally in the first place causes them to get a fair trial. Especially for a 10k price tag.
