Opinions on best Ruger MK III open sights

    Hi all,

The fiber op sights are going.....going.....gone, I don't like them, and the Millet red-dot is bulky for shoulder holster wear. I would like adjustable standard/target sights, but don't like the wide squared-off rear blade, or the sharp undercut of a partridge type front sight (had one on a Govt. Target Model awhile back). Night sights are an interesting option, but I don't think I'll be using a .22 LR pistol at night anytime soon. I've looked at LPA and have several options on my Midway wishlist. I can bevel the corners on a rear blade, but there are so many various models to consider!!!!!!!

What experience is out there with the various models of open sights available, and any advice about particulars would be appreciated. For example, some product comments I've seen recommend getting new front sight post mounting screws, as that model didn't come with them and the old screw wouldn't work with the new sight this person received.

Thank you for your forthcoming input.

So I take it that all the Ruger MK series pistol owners out there are happy with their sights and nobody has had a need to change them??????????

I have a MKIII 22/45 that I would like to replace the sights on also so I hope this thread gets some responses.
I have looked on the Ruger site http://shopruger.com/Mark-II_Mark-II...uctinfo/84201/ but they are not exactly what I want either.

Sorry about that! I have a MKII target and I like mine. I've never looked into changing them.

With my previous Govt. Target MKII, I never thought anything of it either......but with these fiber-op sights.....I don't like them for an accurate .22 pistol....too crude. I was raised with post/notch, not 3-dot sight alignment. I tend to carry this Ruger in a Tanker shoulder-holster, and while it doesn't need "combat sights" I don't want things to snag or sharp edges around the exterior.

There are just so many options out there just in the Midway catalog, I'm looking for any experiences with something other than the standard sights.

For as much use as a .22 pistol gets for general duty as a hike-gun when small game is the likely target, why not ask?
