Yahoo had a Taste Test for the best Ice Cream, but the readers comments blew their findings out the window. It was almost unanamous that Yahoo blew it. They picked Bryers and Ben and Jerry's, but the readers almost unanimously picked Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla, and it wasnt even on Yahoos list!

If it wasnt on the list, then it wasn't part of the poll. Likely because Blue Bell must be regional not national. It isnt for sale up here. A regional for us would be Edeys. You have probably never seen it as I haven't seen Blue Bell.
FYI, My choice of the given is Breyers natural vanilla, once in a while with way to much Hersheys syurp making it swim in its own little chocolate pool.

Problem is, snake, BlueBell is a Texas product and only available in that area. I never heard of it till I moved here. Each area has its own best local/regional dairy, of course.
I'm guessing that B&J is among the best of the national brands, since they are among the few using the best ingredients and such. I prefer Dove for a gourmet treat, however.

As to all time favorites, there is a chain of ice cream stands around here called Brewsters. Chocolate raspberry truffle in a sugar cone is awesome.
Packaged favorites, Gotto go with Schwanns Black Forest Cherry. Which Satan had them discontinue, although they have a rasperry swirl with chocolate chunks that isnt hard to accept as a substitute.

Believe it or not, the best vanilla around is probably Walmart's own brand, sold by the gallon in a squarish plastic tub for less than six bucks. Packed with artificial flavor, it is irresistible. I know this garbage is far closer to a chemistry lab than any dairy farm but who cares, it tastes great.

When I moved from west Texas to Bryan/College Station in 1973, though, I had never heard of it. Now it seems to be all over the state, as well as other states.

Blue Bell has creameries in Chattanooga and Nashville, TN. It's O.K., but I like Mayfield's more better.
