Yup, you almost can tell by the name of of the permit/license. CPL = concealed pistol permit, LTCF (PA) = license to carry firearms, etc. I think only where you have CWP (concealed weapon permit) that you can begin to check the laws and see what are defined as "weapons" that you can carry. There are local restrictions too. While you can carry "cutting instruments" in PA, for example, you can't carry ANY cutting instruments in Philly, even a freakin' Swiss Army knife. The cops will mostly ignore those and even folders, but if they don't like you or want to get you for something, they have excuses if you are carrying one of those. Absurd!

Kentucky CCDW permit covers the following:
Any weapon from which a shot, readily capable of producing death or serious physical injury, may be discharged.
Any knife other than an ordinary pocket knife or hunting knife.
Billy, nightstick, or club.
Blackjack or slapjack.
Nunchaku karate sticks.
Shiriken or death star.
Artificial knuckles made from plastic, or other similar hard material.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For I carry a .308 and not a .270
