    Glock 36?

I'm considering an upgrade to my current home defense weapon (Davis .380) that I've had for 20 years. I'm also wanting to apply for a CCW permit. Up until a couple weeks ago, I was going to try and find an S & W model 327 "Nightguard" that held 8 rounds of .357 Mag, but then MN decided to launch their anti gun campaign and any handgun that holds over 7 rounds falls into AWB territory! And I'm not going to sign up to be registered, have my home inspected, and go through this process annually! I'm not sure what will happen here in MN with all the anti gun proposals, so right now I need to make my decision as if the law has been passed, and choose a weapon that flies under the AWB legislation radar. So I decided if I'm limited to how many rounds I can have, I then need stopping power.

This brings me to the topic, the Glock 36. Anyone familiar with this particular firearm? Know of any issues with it? Are there fixes for any of the issues? Any other info that you can share with me, including suggesting a better alternative weapon that can do the job, with 7 rounds?

If I ever have to use it, I'll figure out how I'll deal with more attackers than I have rounds in the magazine! Thanks ahead of time.

Yeah sure, you can say that my .380 is underpowered, but I'm betting you wouldn't want me shooting you in the face with it!

Go to Bills Gun Shop in Robbinsdale, rent whatever you would like to buy and buy what you like.Bill's has a couple vendors shows every year that allows you to shoot the guns vendors bring in for free as long as you use ammo purchased from Bill's.

Dealing with extra attackers is a non issue. Just carry more mags. .45acp has bbeen trusted by military, Law enforcement , and civilians for years, and I think the G36 is a fine pistol. Get the gun, get some mags, and never look back.

I'm familiar with Bill's from seeing them online and I know I've had to have driven by or around that area many times, but I did not know they had vendors coming in and you can shoot for the cost of purchased ammo! Thanks a bunch for that!

I carried a G36 + 2 spare mags all day, every day for about 5 years...shot 50-100 rounds a week with it, no malfunctions of any kind...without a doubt, the best carry gun I ever owned. Only sold it when my environment changed after retirement (inner city/urban to very rural)

The G36 is my favorite Glock. The G23 is next.

You should get what you like and want; but, 8 is not over 8?????

    Re: Glock 36?

I've owned both a G30 and G36 for several years. Difference is that the G30 has a staggered magazine w. 10 rounds, the G36 is single stack and a bit slimmer in the grip and frame. Otherwise the pistols are identical and shoot precisely the same.

The G36 is a fine compromise between larger .45s and the extra small models. It's quite accurate for its size barrel, just fine for self defense distances. The G30/36 have octagonal fluted barrels instead of the normal hexagonal. Glock says that the 8-sided grooves grip the bullet a teeny bit more firmly, improving accuracy. The G30/36 also has a dual concentric mainspring. It's designed to recoil less sharply, in a "staged" contraction of both springs acting together, making for smoother functioning, less "snap" but total reliability.

I will say that the G30 or G36 have less perceived recoil than any similar size .45 I've fired, so maybe their dual spring system works as advertised.

The G36 is totally reliable, as are all Glocks. I've never had a misfeed of any type in a Glock.

If you're looking for a mid-size .45 and like the polymer pistol feel, a G36 will be a superb, economical choice.

If you can find one, you should look at the Springfield XDS, I just purchased one not long ago and love this little gun. .45 Single stack and smaller than the Glock 36. (its only 1" thick) I have a 30 that I have tried to carry but a Glock is too bulky for me to carry comforatably. I have found if it isn't easy to carry, I won't carry it.

Oops! I meant to say over 7 rounds! The proposed ammo capacity ban for pistols is over 7, so an 8 shot revolver is considered an "assault weapon". So if I owned one before the ban goes into effect, I'd have to register it annually, have the home searched annually, have my background checked annually, pay fees annually, blah blah...Thanks for catching that!

Interesting! I'll keep it in mind. Now that I've learned from this thread that a gun shop near me may actually allow me to rent the weapon I'm considering, may either make it really easy for me to decide, or much harder!

I carry the XDs also, and it is a good shooter, and reliable. It's almost exactly the same size as my K-series Kahrs in 9mm and .40 S&W. I have, and have had, several sub-compacts, and the XDs is the best of the bunch for my needs/wants.

I was very interested in the G-36, until I compared it with the double-stack G-30. It is not that much thinner, so I figured the reduced weight (from less .45 ammo) was the only advantage, really, over the double stack. I would recommend comparing the G36 and G30, side by side, before choosing the G36.
