It signifies that the person who did it has a great big pair of brass ones...totes 'em around in a wheel barrow...........and their shotgun wasn't handy....

Firearm Safety Rule #8 : No matter how responsible he may seem, never give a loaded gun to a monkey.
The first water moccasin got dispatched with Rich's 16 gauge Sauer and Sohn breechloader. I think the snake's mate got the .380 treatment a few days later.

There's really not much to it, JL. Happened 3-4 years ago, 4 years this coming September if I remember right. It was during the Cottonmouth breeding season, and I live right on a 6,000 acre lake with probably the 2nd highest population of gators and snakes in Florida according to the Game & Fish Commission. The first Cottonmouth was a female about 4 feet long and maybe 4 inches in diameter....a good bit bigger than the Cottonmouths you normally see. Anyhow she came into the yard and my Rat Terrier, K-9, saw her and charged right off. The snake went through a vent hole and under the house which has an 18" crawl space. I've got two Grandkids who live next to us-we're way out in the country, Plantation Country, actually-and I won't tolerate poisonuous snakes, gators or bears in the yard. (So far, all I've seen is bear sign but no bears....yet, but just wait....) Non-poisonuous snakes are exempt. Anyhow I went after the Cottonmouth crawling under the house with a flashlight and my little J.P.Sauer und Sohn 16ga double hammergun. She was hiding in a slight depression, an old stumphole, so I crawled up to about 6-8 feet from her and blew the head half off killing the snake instantly. It was 3-4 days before I could hear a damn thing! So....
Exactly one week later, almost to the hour, along comes a male Cottonmouth tracking the mateing smell of the female. He was a little bigger than the first snake by close to a foot, maybe, and a little bigger in diameter. The scenario repeated itsself. K-9 goes "Ape" (sorry, bream), the snake goes through the same vent hole to the exact same depression, I go under the house inching along on my side and shoot the darn thing. Couldn't hear anything for another 2-3 days!
I don't have any photos of all this, but I think Jerry might have some. Not important though. Cottonmouths have a reputation of being overly aggressive and prone to run you down to bite you, but really these snakes won't do this. They can lunge about 2/3rds of their length and strike you, but if you'll stay back at least the body length you're safe from being bitten. I was in no significant danger crawling under the house to kill these two as long as I was very observant, and that I was!
I'm gonna buy you a 100% Egyptian cotton lined platinum wheelbarrow to carry your stones around in..
