    Its deeper than you think!

Went up to Bloodhounds place on sunday to test a rifle I am selling ( Its a Magtech semiauto 22 with a 4x32 scope which is surplus to requirements).

We did a bit of clearing out some dead trees for firewood and then I drove into the swamp to clear the rushes/weeds between the shooting bench and the 100m target stand. Instead of cutting them I figured it was easier to flatten them with the quad so I spent an enjoyable 10 minutes blasting through the water and mud knocking them flat. On my last run I ran close to the bank and past the 100m backstop to clear the 200m range. (The 200m range is slightly offset.)

The bike started sinking a bit deeper in the swamp and it became decision time.......... Give it some gas and keep going or..........stop and back up............

    I chose the former.........

The bike didnt actually touch bottom as it bottomed out on the weed mat.............but when I stepped off it I found bottom..........almost up to my waist dammit!!

The water came up to within 1/2" of the exhaust so I was (a) hoping the bike wouldnt sink any further and (b) hoping the motor wouldnt stop. Luckily neither happened.

No matter what I did I couldnt get it unstuck and had to call BH over with his 250cc 2wd to give me a tow

I even talked him into trying to attach the towrope to the tow bar..........

He managed to pull the quad back far enough so that I hit solid ground and all the while was giving me 'stick' about how his pissy little 250 had to pull the 450 out cos it got stuck.

    He spoke too soon
When we drove out of the swamp, guess who got stuck..................and had to be pulled out with the 450.

    I need a winch!!!!!

( After making a few ph calls today I have managed to score a quad winch free from Marks son who had it on his quadrunner and will pick it up on the weekend)

Oh, and as for the Magtech..........I put 100 rounds through it at the 8" steel gong which is 97 m away ( 100yds) and was hitting it about 70/80% of the time while shooting from a standing position.

    Fun times.

This isn't the first time we've seen you send a buddy in the muck when you get stuck.

I'm in awe of your persuasive ability.

Installing the winch, alone, may be enough to keep you from getting stuck.

That place looks like most of the places I worked during my early land surveying days - does NZ have any snakes? I've never heard you mention them.

Its a bit 'straggly' around the creek Rich, the rest of the property has been 'trimmed' though.
