Yep. Holy crap, that ride whipped me. Being a rail line it's pretty flat. The way out it's a slooooooooow fall over 8 miles. Basically down hill the whole way, with some slight humps along the way. We were flying. Averaging 20 MPH for the first 5 miles, dropped back a little for the other three.
Then, we had to turn around and go back. That sucked. Uphill the whole way. Only slightly uphill, but uphill.

According to my app, there was 132 feet difference between high and low elevation. Over 8 miles that's a very slight hill. Total gain was 367' , which includes all the up and downs.

Paving the railroad grade is a good cause to get behind, I think there is about 40 miles that goes right past my office , they finished up another section just a few years ago.

There is one here in MOzambique, the Katy Trail. It's not paved, (maybe parts are) but crushed gravel and 100+ miles long. Had I the proper bike I would ride it.

    Edit, 237 miles.

NN - that's one beautiful bird! Western birds aren't that pretty as a rule.

Ended up going to the Doc today as this sinus infection just wasn't going away - a steroid shot later and I'm feeling MUCH better. I don't like taking the shot, but sometimes there just isn't an alternative. Felt good enough this afternoon to even go get my nails done, which were overdue thanx to being sick. Stopped into a local antique/junque store that I like to frequent, but unfortunately they're going out of business. They generally have good stuff at good prices, although the $100 (tops) piano from the 1880s that's priced at $1,800 isn't included in the "good deal" dept. I don't care that it has a beautiful cabinet in good shape - it will take between $10K and $12K to rebuild/restore. In a similar vein is the $300 White treadle sewing machine. Beautiful machine, but really worth around $100, and only that much because both the machine and the cabinet are in great shape.

Hoping to go to the range tomorrow - the original plan was to take in a Belly Dance performance in the early afternoon TODAY, then hit the range on the way home. But a range trip tomorrow will have to suffice - I've been reading what seems to be a rather good book on pistol marksmanship, I want to try some of the techniques.

If in doubt, download "Microsoft Safety Scanner" - FROM THE MICROSOFT SITE - and run it on full scan. I've gotten rid of a TON of malware with that thing that Norton, Symantec, et al didn't see.

I wasn't gonna be the first to open my mouth and admit I didn't know what FPF meant - but NN's use is OK by me as I actually learned something new today. So as I read the Wiki article, it basically means heavy covering fire - oftentimes to enable an about to be overrun force to retreat safely - or at least safer?

So I'm the tool bag of the year.
Youngest called, they were camping with friends. Not sure exactly the story, but someone had a lot of dogs, said they were being mistreated. (I wasn't there, I can't confirm). She befriended one dog I guess, called me asking to keep it, said it would die if they left it there. And....I said no. We've had this discussion multiple times, we aren't getting more animals. If she had her way we would live in a zoo. Oldest texted me said I made her sister cry. Ugh.

Ok, so I'm now the sucker of the year. Our new pooch is on the way home. It comes with the caveat that it MUST get along with our current pup, or we have to find it a new home. Which is better than seeing it mistreated/starved. Uncle Chris- Animal Rescue.
