    Drill baby, drill!

Still drilling the holes through the tile for the towel bar - on and off, while I do other stuff and wait for the battery to recharge. Slow going, but working on the third of four now. Using a Luger squirt pistol to keep the masonry bit cool.

there is zero reason to attempt to cool that drill, assuming it's carbide.

It is. Don't cool it? It gets very hot very quickly!

I've drilled countless thousands of holes in limestone and concrete. Cooling isn't needed. And yeah It gets hot. Don't touch it. That's what it's made to do.

If the tile is really old, then it's super hard all the way through. Not like the stuff now with a glazed crust on the outside and a crumbly center. Takes a while to drill through it.

Thanx Chris - I knew that cooling the bit would also lubricate it - without the water it drill mo' fastah too!

On carbide machine tools they say either run them dry, or use a flood coolant. Don't get them hotternhell then douse them with cool liquid lest you crack the tool. Of course this is a drill bit in a crapper wall.
Way back when I was watching the local utility company drill a hole for a power pole. It's Missouri, so you dig past the inch of dirt, the 2' of loose rocks, then hit a limestone shelf. Dude pulled the drill out of the hole, and removed one of the carbide cutters on the auger. What does my dumbass do? Picks up said cutter that had been chewing at limestone for 30 minutes. To say it was hot was an understatement. Dude I was working with was cracking up laughing. "Bet youndont do that again."

OUCH! I bet you haven't, either. I was keeping it pretty wet, just for that reason: Didn't want to shock the tool. But it *is* drilling a lot faster, I'm waiting for the battery to charge up one more time to finish the job.

I'm starting to really like it here, here's why: Cleaning out the garage, took out a bunch of junky old cabinets, a piece of glass shelving, a couple of rolls of Formica (???!!!), and some other misc. crap. Put it all at the end of the driveway. I had literally JUST finished with the last item, when here comes a county garbage truck. It stops, 2 guys get out, throw all the junk into the back, hit the "crush button", and drove away!

Soooo...................you're telling us that it didn't take you long to inspect that carbide cutter?

Reminds me of the blacksmith making horseshoes. A feller comes in and grabs up one that was just dunked in the water barrel to cool it. He threw it down quick. Blacksmith asked him if it was hot. Feller told him, no, it don't take me long to inspect a horseshoe.

It's rained 1 1/2" in the last hour and it's still coming down like a cow pissin' on a flat rock. I'm gonna be flooded again, I bet.

NN, you best prepare because it's coming at you next!

There's a critter under the house. Beagle dog is going ape shtuff. Walking over the house cocking his head listening, and trying to smell whatever it is through the floor. Got a trap set, hopefully I'll catch it after sundown.

Smelled like Woodstock at work yesterday. Three semi trucks showed up from Texas loaded to the gills with confiscated drugs. Took all night to incinerate them.........

Made a funnel for the woodland invader. It got in the trap, stole a peanut butter cookie, exited the trap and left the cookie on the ground. I had a small stick propped up so that I could tell if it had entered or exited. It had, so I don't think it was a mouse that stole the cracker.
