Yeah, but if Ned disappears and some day we come upon a bear wearing that hat with a holster and a .327 in it, we'll know what happened. Either the Bear ate Ned or he gave the bear his hat and gun and he's still in a tree somewheres in NC.

    That HSM HP was not as tough as I thought it would be, it got through one encyclopedia and lodged under the cover of the next one;
however, much bullet was lost in the process.

    Tried a GECO .357 158 gr FMJ------same penetration, as the bullet was found in the same place;
but, the second book was torn all the way to the back cover and while severely damaged the bullet did seem to not shed much material..

    Re: Ned's Shooting Thread

Back to 1/2 gal milk jugs and .357.

More by coincidence than by design, I ended up with some of those 158 gr I had been shooting and some
R-P 125 gr SJHP in the Blackhawk.

I missed with the 158 gr and when the R-P ammo came up, there was a noticeable louder bang and recoil.
One jug flattened out and flew in the bushes and the other was well ripped up. The water in the jugs turned into a cloud
instead of just leaking out as with the 158 gr HP.

It is now hunting season, so, I need to wear a orange vest to go out in the forest in case I am attacked by a squirrel and need to defend myself.

    Re: Ned's Shooting Thread

    I had to try it.
The R-P 125 gr SJHP penetrates farther in the same books as did that 158 gr HP I had been shooting.
    Bullet did break up badly.

So Ned, if you shot a Kindle how many Virtual E books/pages will 125 and 158 grainers shoot through?

Don't use either one to pot a squirrel for lunch unless they're too tough to chew out there.
My thoughts are generally clear. My typing, not so much.

It is deer season, so, carrying a .44mag--------haven't seen any deer, just forestry workers.

They want to open up the understory near the forest edge; but, by fire------that means smoke in town.
They control burn as needed already.

    Re: Ned's Shooting Thread

Went out to shoot some of that woosie .44 spl I complained about before.

Anyway, I almost ran over a king snake in the dirt road; then while fording one of the low flooded spots,
a bog turtle jumped out of nowhere and almost caused me to upend in the water as it tried to swim in front of me
in the tire track I was following.

The ammo shot fine, just HOHUM.

    Re: Ned's Shooting Thread

The latest 10mm thread got me thinking 10mm, so I broke out a 10mm and went to the woods.

Filled a couple of jugs at the last branch crossing and headed to the end of the road and found that a dead tree had come down and blocked the road.
While I was clearing the tree, one of my jugs fell over and drained; so. back to the culvert at the branch crossing I went.

The 10mm is so accurate that I only got off 2 shots and the trip was over.

On the way out I saw a squirrel in the road; but. could not get off a shot.

If you would have got a shot off and hit that squirrel, that 10mm wouldn't left much to scrape off the road except some snacks fer the buzzards.

That is possibly right unless I got lucky and only hit the head.
I shot one with a ball .38 spl once and that did not do a messy job, just passed through the lungs.

    Re: Ned's Shooting Thread

Rode back out in the forest today with the intention of shooting a gallon veg oil jug.

Got half way out and saw a fella with a shotgun walking out of the woods, so, I stopped to chat.
The guy was deaf which made conversation difficult, he must have been deaf from birth
because he was hard to understand.

We had a short conversation about stuff such as he had running shoes on and the road was flooded and
it was probably the fault of a beaver or two.

He had tunnel vision on my Redhawk once he noticed it, so, I said so long and moved on.

Went down to the end and tested the jug with .44 mag flat nose. The jug is tough and not a good choice for
a big splash when hit with such a load.

Still, it was more fun than going to an arts and craft show at the Catholic Church which we did this afternoon.
