.243 Winchester. It was my first buck.

For me it was a 25.06 for diameter. .41 magnum for shortest.

That was before his uncle started spray painting the words "cow" and "pig" on the side of his livestock during hunting season.

    Yes.

It would be more fun to just make you wonder...but a buddy had a cow down. We had the bright idea to butcher it. So in order to butcher a cow, it's gotta be dead. So, figured I'd do a test of the .380. It worked like a charm. One shot to the head and it was lights out.

A pair of Channel -Locks, but I'll never tell that story here.

It was legal deer season, though.

I've taken enough heat about a prairie dog and a bucket.

Moderators, (besides bucket boy) I propose you ban him unless he fesses up and tells THIS story.

I had visions of someone on a night stalk (aka Cow Tipping) with a Ruger LCP.

I imagine you will not get smaller than a .223 unless out of the USA like Alec due to hunting laws

Oh, Hizell No. Linefinder and Knitepoet MUST tell these stories!!! And they must start at the beginning with "And there I was" and end with "it was me or him/her!!

There was a guy who hunted our lease before I was there who though it would be a good idea to take a doe with a knife. Jump on back and overpower kind of deal.

I have done that on a few occasions. They were wounded by gun/bow/or vehicle but still mobile, albeit slowed down somewhat. Ran them down, tackled them, and cut their throats.

This one wasn't wounded. The guy didn't have the slit the throat thought process going on. He was "thinking" more like a Rambo & Tarzan hybrid.

I spoke with my buddy who was there and he clarified it for me. It was a spike and he was trying to kill it with his hands by breaking it's neck.

Kind of a boring story once the details come out.
A doe ran into the back quarter panel of the ambulance, I turned around she was in the middle of the road trying to crawl off, Turned on the lights to warn oncoming traffic @ 0200, (wasn't any) walked up to her stabbed it in the middle of her neck, edge forward and cut her throat. She fell over dead and I drug her out of the road.

That seems fair enough. Now, Linefinder has to fess up.

Pretty much the same as KP's tale, only not as elegant. I had enough sense to not try a Case Trapper, and I couldn't reach the tire tool.

    Some things are best forgotten.

But....I do now own a Benchmade 710 Axis Lock. Just in case.

When I worked at TxDOT, one guy had to use a sledgehammer in a similar situation. Ick

I know a guy that used a sledgehammer on a horse that broke a leg.

I have used a .22lr on a steer and several pigs. Aim for the center of the X and squeeze the trigger. It is all over except the shaking.

When you positively absolutely have to cut your way out of an airplane fusilage, that's the knife to have.

I would guess that a .22 rimfire has taken as many(or more) deer than all the others together...a .22 rifle with a flashlight taped to the barrel has been a poachers standby for a long time....

I do know of one person that took a doe out with a maglight. It started with the phrase "Do you know there's a deer sitting up and looking around in the bed of your truck?"
