Last weekend I took the 1885 highwall 45-70 to Montana to shoot it with my Dad. We did an informal shooting session picking out rocks on the "rim rocks" and shooting them. So, there were no paper targets but volleyball sized sandstone rocks. After a few small adjustments those rocks didn't stand a chance. Those rocks completely shattered! Well, I did recover one bullet a 500 grain cast. These bullets were going about 1200 fps. They drilled a channel about 1" wide and 12" inches deep into damp hillside.
The left bullet I recovered from the hillside after it shattered a rock. The right is the same unfired 500 grainer.
