Bunny huggers beware..........Hunting video of 25cal air rifle.

Been meaning to post some of these videos up for quite a while but Photoscrewup hasnt been working for videos for me.

Dont know if I mentioned it before but Bloodhound bought a new air rifle last year. It is a Benjamin Marauder in 25cal. He set it up specifically for pest destruction and has killed well over 100 rabbits with it on his 14+acres over the last 12 months. In fact it is so deadly we have been helping a few neighbours out over the last 8 months.
One of the properties is a horse 'operation' with stables, arenas etc.

Here are a couple of vids of the rifle in action. Please ignore any 'language'

That thing is deadly out to 120metres if you 'dial it up'............

Got a couple more videos which I will post up if photoscrewup plays ball...........
Still enjoying the trip of a lifetime and making the best of what I have.....

Videos are not working for me on my iPad. I'll try them tomorrow from my MacBook.

Hasenpfeffer means Rabbit cooked in pepper. Hase pronounced Ha-Say is Rabbit, Pfeffer is of course Black Pepper. I bet that is good too!

My only complaint about my air guns is they are louder than my .22 bolt action rifles with CCI quiets and deliver less energy than the .22's. They are, however, city legal. My airguns are good to about 25 yards, maybe 100 feet. So is my rifle with CCI quiets.

When you click on the link and get a Photobucket page and it has that stupid little photo icon, where the video should be, right-click the icon and "Open link in a new tab". That's how I got them to play.

It does not mean rabbit cooked in pepper, save for a literal translation. Which it ain't. Hasenpfeffer is a lot more than bunny cooked in pepper.

It's rabbit or hare chunks marinated in vinegar and red wine and a bunch of spices of which cracked black pepper is only one.....

I have a good crop of bunnies around the house, but Mrs. Bisley likes watching them, so there is no rabbit stew in my future. If I had a vegetable garden, it would be open season, but I don't, so they harm nothing. I could probably get one with a baseball bat, they have become so tame. A neighbor released his tame rabbits about 20 years ago, and they have mixed with the local cottontails and the bigger ones that we call 'swamp rabbits,' so they vary widely in size and color, although the tame rabbit physical characteristics (except for larger size) have mostly been bred out of them. They are kind of grayish-brown, some with white tails, and some not. They are larger than the average cottontail, but smaller than the old fashioned swamp rabbits.

Obviously, there are no foxes around, because they would have no chance against one. We have coyotes, but the rabbits have learned to stay close to the house and are apparently avoiding them pretty well.

Back in Colorado, we had cotton tails all over the place. It wasn't uncommon for them to be grazing in my front yard and stick around when I showed up. I started naming them. My favorite was Stu.

Dad made it a LONG time ago. Probably 35 years ago. (Crap I'm getting old) I can still remember the taste. Pretty decent.

The recipes I have seen just call for a teaspoon of pepper

Re: Bunny huggers beware..........Hunting video of 25cal air rifle.

I've never eaten Hassenpfeffer, so I don't for sure know how it tastes. All I can do is imagine. But the name in the Kraut language would suggest that it is Rabbit cooked with pepper. Hassey or hasey means rabbit and pfeffer means pepper. I do know from my own experience if you use course ground or cracked black pepper it can dominate the flavor of food and it doesn't take much. There are Sausages made from Germany to the Czech Republic (and also here in Texas) that have enough black pepper in the recipe where it dominates the flavor. Most German, Polish, Czech Sausage has a blend of black pepper, salt, and garlic, but some use less garlic and the black pepper dominates. I'm pretty sure that's probably where it got the name Hassenpfeffer. Also, back in the day they may have used more black pepper in the recipe. A lot of people will use less of some spice if that spice overpowers their tastes. Recipes can evolve over time. Take Pico de Gallo, I've eaten some that was so hot with Jalapeno that it would remove paint. But I prefer the sissy version with just enough chilis to give it flavor but not enough to totally dominate. So when I make it I use quite a bit less chilis than some people. I don't like excessively hot foods. Overheat can masks other more desireable flavors. Anyway, that's my opinion of how Hassenpfeffer got that name and how come these recipes may have evolved to use less black pepper.
