You can do it in a short action and you will push 180 grain bullets 300 FPS faster than the .308, making it quite deadly(deadly from the stand point of better bullet performance) at 500 or even 600 yards. Don't limit yourself. You've got the .308 niche covered already. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
You have read Zee’s posts for a long time now
Why would you even assume that he would be using or would want to use 180 grain bullets for pigs out to 500 with a emphasis out to 300?
He already has plenty of 308 Winchester ammunition on hand, and he would either have to purchase or reload for the other cartridges you were mentioning, and those larger cartridges are not necessary for his goals.
Almost every time with the 308 Winchester he’s going to be using a 168 grain Amax, there is one other bullet he might you sometimes but the majority of the time that’s the bullet he will use.
Why are you making an argument against the distance you listed when he said in his original post it will be out to 500 yards hunting rifle, with an emphasis out to 300 yards- with a likelihood it would be used at night.
He has already stated that he has other toys for further distances-So he is not limiting himself with is option.

That being said, there’s nothing wrong with you preferring have a 30-06 or a 300 Winchester short Magnum.

I HATE that bipod, but it's the only Harris I have with a pic-rail adapter. I need to rectify that. Did I mention I HATE that bipod?

Now we know what to send to Zee for Christmas presents this year...Non-swiveling Harris Bipods

No vote needed. You, NEED one! I have a 24" DPMS LR 308 and love it. Range use only but would rather take 100 rounds from it than my M1A loaded, anytime. Do it, you'll never look back.

Well, I placed the lower in Purgatory.

Gonna wait until the Upper goes on sale.

Not going with a suppressor host for the muzzle device?
