    My first rifle

Not the first one I've owned, but the first one I ever bought. It's a Winchester 250 and I bought it back in 1964 at Economy Auto store in Clarkesville, GA. My BIL got it from me a long time ago, and he died recently and I got it back. Got a little rust on the barrel and the front sight, plastic, is broken.

But I'm proud of it and glad it's back at home. Here, I think, is a picture of it. I ordered a new front sight from Jack First and will completely restore it when I get it.

Sorry to hear about your brother in law, but I am glad that it has gone back to where it will be loved again.

    Cool.

I wish I had the first rifle I ever bought. That was stolen a long time ago.

Also, it's pretty cool that you bought at an auto parts store.

If you bought it in 64' that places it as made in the hay-day of Winchester's quality.

It wasn't an auto parts store, it was more like a hardware store. I think "Economy Auto" was a franchise name, but don't know. I suppose they had a few parts, but that wasn't their business. I also some years earlier bought a cheap bamboo rod from them and a Bronson fly reel. It was a small store as stores go.

I saw one of those when I was a kid and fell in love with it. I'm glad you got it back, but sorry about your BIL.

Actually Early, the year before was the last year of the Winchester hayday. 63 was the last year of several Winchester models as we knew them. But still any Winchester is great. My post 64 1966 model 70 is my first choice for hunting still, even with all the others I have bought since.

Very nice to have an old friend back. Bet the replacement sight costs almost as the rifle did when it was new!

Nice rifle; was offered one of those some years ago (Pretty scarce here) but let it go since it wasn't exactly the rimfire I was looking for.
    As usual, I regret it.

    Re: My first rifle

I bought the one with the checkered stock at Vandenberg AFB CA. in 1965 or 1966, could find the receipt, I was stationed at Vandenberg for 9 mos. at that time.. It was my first storebought rifle and still in my safe..Everyone in the family has clamed it. Great shooter. I also have my Brother's 190 auto loader.

Your rifle looks chic, what is its barrel length?
