Anyone Familiar with El Paso, TX?

I normally don't take my EDC with me when I fly simply to avoid the hassle at the airport. However, this week I have to travel to El Paso for business and was wondering with it being on the Mexican border, would it be a good idea to go ahead and put up with the hassle? My CWFL is recognized by Texas, so that is not an issue and the laws appear to be very similar to those of Florida.....just have to brush up on the procedures for transport by air....
Any advice from those familiar with El Paso?

Not likely! I have been married to the same woman for 25 years. When she turned 40 she asked if I was going to trade her in on two 20 year olds. My answer? "Heck no! I can't keep up with one 20 year old, two would kill me!"

    You mean, “North Juarez”?

Go there quite often. I always carry a gun. Have never had a problem there. But, I know where to go and not to go. Like any place you visit on business, do your business and go home.

El Paso is not a dangerous place when treated like any other city.

Do NOT go to Juarez!!!!!! I repeat........

My intent is to stay as far from the border as possible, but looking at Google Earth it appears that the job site I have to go to is only a few blocks from the border.....I have a hotel room booked near the University.

Edit: Just looked at Google Earth again, the job site is literally 5 blocks from the border.

    Zee is right on

Spent several years there with the Military and go to visit my Son. The areas you shouldn't go to are obvious. Enjoy your time, see the sights, and you will love the food.

    You will be fine.

There is is a nice brew house near the university. Can’t remember the name. Good place, though.

Seriously, “North Juarez” is my second home. Spend almost as much time there as at home.

Hate the place. Just turned down a job offer to move there. But, it ain’t anymore dangerous than any other big city.

Until you cross the border. Then...........roll the dice.

I was stationed at Ft.Bliss for a spell in the early 70's....You were better off not going to Juarez back then too..

    I-10 is the dividing factor.

    NE and NW are fine.

I don’t go SE or SW.

    Ever.

Thanks guys! At 6'4" 250 lbs and hairy I am more likely to be mistaken for a Sasquatch than a victim, so normal big city danger I can handle. I was just wondering if the proximity to the border changed things up any.

    Nope.

But, go south and...........regardless of how big and hairy you think you are..........you are just as likely to end up on the face of a milk carton.

I guess I will go ahead and brush up on the air transport procedures and pack my M&P with a box of hollow points.

Re: Anyone Familiar with El Paso, TX?

My employers policy forbids me from carrying a firearm while on company business......which just means I will switch to my Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.0 instead of my usual Sneaky Pete. I never go anywhere unarmed in Florida, on company business or not, so I guess I might as well extend that policy to any state that recognizes my CWFL.
I checked out the transport procedures for the airline I fly with....doesn't really look like that big of a deal. Also, my legal protection through U.S. Law Shield covers me in all 50 states so I am running out of excuses not to carry everywhere I legally can.

Ah, so your employer sends you into peril unarmed? Sounds like a Libtard to me. May be time to find another job.

Japanese owned company. They pay well but just don't get our gun culture.....but then that is really our fault. We disarmed them after WWII and turned them into a nation of pacifists. The policy doesn't stop us from carrying, we just don't do so openly. Quite a few of my coworkers, including my boss, carry. If the worst happened, I would rather be unemployed but alive than a gainfully employed corpse. But until/unless the worst happens.....concealed means concealed.

Ok, did the research on air transport of firearms with the airline I fly on. I am ready. This can go in my checked bag, just have to declare it when checking my bags.

Better unload those mags and put the ammo in a cardboard box in your suitcase!

According to the airline (Southwest) "Magazines or clips containing ammunition must be securely packaged (placed in another small box or in a secure cutout in the carrying case, in order to protect the primer of the ammunition)." - taken word for word from their website.

Re: Anyone Familiar with El Paso, TX?

You'll be fine carrying in El Paso. Better to have it and not need it that need it and not have it. If you're staying near the University, you'll be less than a couple miles from the border. When the cartel wars were in full swing a few years ago, stray bullets from Juarez struck city hall and the university. The violence over there has calmed down considerably. But I still would not consider it safe to go over there, by any means. And you already know your job site is very close.

Zee pretty much pointed out all the key points. El Paso is as safe as any other city. I'd agree to stay away from south El Paso as much as possible. There are places to eat and entertain around there. Look around on North Mesa st. Shoot me a PM if you need anything.

Happy to report that the trip was uneventful. No problems flying with my M&P and box of ammo, no Mexican drug lords and no new Mexican girlfriends.
