Yep. All presidents break "campaign promises," I'm pretty sure.

I just don't know why we call 'em "promises."

Why create a huge uproar by tipping over the applecart when it's slower, but just as effective to put the pushcart vendor out of business by diverting his customers to some other location or stealing his apples one at a time? Strangling cash flow works- - - -it's just a slower process than armed robbery. The UN can't waste as much money if the US refuses to keep the financial tap flowing wide open.

Oh absolutely. Politicians making big promises they don't intend to keep is a tactic as old as politics

And it has some startling similarities to the oldest profession.

Yes but in Obama’s case these “broken promises” where used to negotiate what? There is a difference between negotiation tactics and ignorant ineptitude.

Well, they helped get him elected, so I'd say they were used for riling up the base and getting folks to vote.

Trump's a businessman who thinks about winning the best deal. Politicians think about winning the next election.

You left out swimming pools. My wife wants one, as well as a boat. I told her that a boat is a hole in the water into which one throws money, whereas a pool is a hole in the ground into which one throws money.

I've had both, and write from experience.

    I feel your pain...

Wife wants a pool, and I finally got her talked into an above ground version as I can throw the damn thing away every 5 years and buy a new one for FAR less than an in-ground.

I think I have her talked outta the boat. I spent 22 years on the water - if I never set foot on another boat it would be exactly 22 seconds too soon! Break Out Another Thousand.

Regarding the hurricanes and fires, there is/was only one country in the UN I know of that sent any people. Israel sent people to PR and Texas to help with disaster relief and search and rescue. They sent more people to other areas hit by the hurricanes. Tiny little Israel is the ONLY one that sent any people. Everybody else just sat on their cans, played pocket pool, and turned their backs.

Put Kiwi land down as having sent aid to the USA in time of need............Firefighters to help in California up to 2008........Aid to Katrina and other natural disasters over the years.

I have always wondered why the rest of the world has always turned to the USA in times of need/natural disasters...........but those countries who accept aid always seem to be missing in action when something happens in the USA.

Due to the highly biased Lame Stream Media, I didn't know that. The LSM has been more into reporting the plight of the undocumented shoppers during natural disasters here. Glad to hear we've got someone else that helps us out in bad times here. ANOTHER nation that is MUCH bigger that all the rest combined when it comes to being a friend in good times and bad.

    I second that. Thanks, Kiwi...
And pass that along to all your Kiwi friends.

Our media here tends to overlook good. Were it in my power to apologize for them, I certainly would.

Reminds me of a few fox hunts I went on with my neighbor and his fox hunting buddies in my early teens. Stay up all night, pass the bottle(they wouldn't let me have any most of the time), listen to the dogs run, arguing about which dog was in the lead, and pee on the fire in the morning to put it out! Man, I miss those days! The longer the night went on, the better the stories got! For a young feller my age, I was in high cotton!

I have seen UN operations of the course of my career. I have seen were letting UN "operations" has gotten us. I think the Ethiopians had it better when they appealed to the League of Nations.

The UN failed the Balkans, their failure contributed to SFOR operations for the next 7-8 years. The UN has failed dang near all of Africa, a direct result was Operation Gothic Serpent. The UN failed in Iraq with there advise and assist mission. The UN has failed in the Sinai, and we rotate forces there every nine months. You name the operation and there has been a failure. The UN failed the Afghan people during the soviet invasion and allowed the Taliban to flourish in the camps.

And lets not talk about Disaster Recovery. What exactly does the UN do for that...Tell me. What resources do they provide? Absolutely zero. It is all the resources of another nation under the flag of the UN.

So it seems to me, that is supporting the UN is going to cost us lives, time, and more money then we should just keep the money ourselves and conduct the operations under our flag...as we see fit.

I have watched the UN place refugees on a bus, take them to their home town, make them sleep in bombed out houses overnight, and return them back to the refugee camp the next day. The UN then counted these refugees as returned, subtracted them from the camp count, and re-added them to the camp count...Why? So they could get more money because they took in more refugees.

Did anyone see the UN during Katrina? Sandy? Puerto Rico? Did the UN bring in extra fire teams to help us in the west.

SO WHAT ARE WE PAYING FOR!
My limited first hand knowledge is Balkans. SFOR 7 March thru September 2000. We were MEDEVAC support for the 115th Field Hospital Task Force Med Eagle, Eagle Base/Tuzla Air Base, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our Area of Operation was Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Hungary where a sister hospital was located at Tazar Air Base. With 6 UH-60 Blackhawks we visited many places. I saw very few UN personnel.

I guarantee we saw each other more than once. When back at Tuzla main we ate at the DFAC down by the laundry, not the one in Salute Alley.

The UN Personnel were mostly out in the camps and in the sectors. Saw a crap ton in Sarajevo and Mostar. There was a small posting of them up near Brcko. And there were still some around the Potocari
