Note during slow-mo how inefficient the powder/energy ratio is. The ball emerges from an almost complete powder burn, indicating the charge leaked a ton!!!

It may be true the "Founding Fathers" never envisioned the AR-15. What is equally true and more important, is they never envisioned, nor would they countenance their future fellow countrymen facing AR-15s while armed only with muskets! Dan Chamberlain
pretty cool. Dan, when I live in Colorado about once a year there was a public cannon shoot. I used to go to them every year. Some of the cannon I saw there looked like they cost a lot of money. They mainly shot the steel/iron? balls, like your link shows... I don't know about the complete powder burn, but that cannon ball went through the engine and the rest of the Saturn car.
"It is what it is"
The mass of the ball and the velocity were great enough to do real damage, but the explosive forces were greatly diminished by the fact the ball had no seal behind it. Maybe that's what kept the cannon barrels from bursting back in the day.
