Joe Biden's net worth?

I don't claim to know a lot about Joe, but I do know that he was raised by a single mother, and managed to get elected to the U.S. Senate at the tender age of 29. This alone has puzzled me, as he doesn't strike me as the type of guy who is that much of a go getter.

He has also been in the senate for 6 terms, and is now the sitting VP, so I figured he must have amassed a sizeable nest egg over the years. I did a google search, and it turns out I'm wrong.

His net woth is about $215k, which is much, much smaller than I would ever guess.

I have also learned that he was a practicing lawyer, with his own firm, prior to running for the senate at age 29. I'm really puzzled as to how someone who has what it takes to get through college and law school, have his own law firm, get elected to senate at such an early age, doesn't have the money sense to do better than this.

Either he's an extremely honest man, a very poor thief, a very poor money manager, or especially good at hiding his assets. I'm ruling out the first option.

Interesting. Actually doesn't sound that crazy. It doesn't look like he worked as a lawyer for long before winning his Senate seat. Current senate pay is ~$175k/year (no doubt was much less when he first joined the Senate). Might sound like a lot, but that's not much beyond middle class in DC. I assume he had to maintain a home in both Delaware and DC which isn't cheap, plus whatever lifestyle he's supposed to maintain as a senator. Very easy to spend that kind of money. Having friends that make more than that here in DC and knowing their lifestyle and how much they're able to save, $200k isn't too crazy if you exclude home values and retirement accounts (I don't know if your calculation considers those). That kind of money affords you a very comfortable lifestyle, but unless you make saving a major chunk a priority it goes quick. The lifestyle of a senator in DC without supplemental income of any kind is probably closer to that of a moderately successful dentist or pharmacist somewhere like Ohio or Texas.

Don't know if he still does, but my understanding was that he commutes (Amtrak) from Delaware every day, or at least he used to.

Yeah I don't think he's worried either. You brought it up that it was unusual. I don't think I've heard Biden complain that he's poor or struggling. His finances look pretty typical for someone in the upper middle class.
