Thread: Well, Ordered my first AR 15 . . . .

    Well, Ordered my first AR 15 . . . .

After years of talking about it, I finally ordered my first AR this week. I guess you could say the final straw was thanks to good ole Barack Hussein Obama and the inevitable attack on our 2nd Amendment. I've been an avid gun owner for many years and have a variety of long guns and hand guns, but never bought an AR.

    Decided on a Colt LE6920.

Now for my question, what accessories, rails, etc do you guys recommend? Any thoughts on favorite holographic sights? Are they worth it? I plan to deck it out for a true Armageddon / Self Defense weapon and would love to have your input.

    Thanks!!

    Welcome!

I have an ACOG on mine but they are expensive. Eotechs are nice but then there is the battery thing. You just need to look around and see what strikes your fancy on accessories. There is a seemingly endless supply of goodies for AR's, the question is, how big is your wallet?

Excellent choice for a first AR. I would throw an Aimpoint on there and a light and spend the rest on mags and ammo.

As for a fore-end to put the light on, I'd take a look at the Magpul MOE or the Daniel Defense rail for that length.

Thanks guys. As for the wallet, I'm not that concerned (within reason). Let's just say if it needs it, I'll find the funds to buy it :).

That being said, is spending $1400 for an ACOG scope really worth the funds?

You will find a wide range of opinions on this. I would not. I would rather use that difference for a good carbine class and more ammo to shoot. But then, I have spent a lot of time behind an Aimpoint.

My thought for a HD rifle - I do not like any magnification simply because it is easier to acquire moving targets at close range with a 1X red dot.

ETA: Just so I don't come off wrong, I'm not saying ACOGs are bad or people who use them are wrong. I'm just saying I do not see the value in their cost for my personal use. If they work for you, that is all that matters.

Aimpoints do obviously use batteries but the run time is something like 8 years on one. So the battery argument is kind of invalid. Deffinatly a light and find a foregrip you like. Rule of thumb here is find things that make it comfortable to shoot and get on target quickly. Then taylor it to you ie: larger trigger guard, grip, stock etc... My 2 cents - Bad Santa

I would just get some mags and ammo and shoot the fire out of it for now. after a few months of shooting and fondling it you will get a better idea of how you want to personalize it.

That depends if you want the M1 tank of sighting systems that don't need batteries.....is issued to the US Military and has withstood combat operations in an extremely hostile environment. For range play and HD, probably not, but if you want the best of the best.....ACOG. Are you familiar with the saying...." spend more on glass than you did on your rifle"?

In my mind EOTECH is the only way to go. Choose which one you like best and go for it. I dropped mine off the tailgate of the truck and cringed as the rife fell right on the sight. Wiped it off and was ready to miss the target when i fired it. Wrong, it didnt lose alignment in the least.

I appreciate the feedback guys. I'll be sure to post a pic once I get her tricked out. Though it appears I'll be waiting a while. It seems everyone else has the same idea and it's going to be at least 6 weeks before it gets here.

    Thanks Barack . . .

Take that $1400 (really as low as $900 if you shop around) you would have spent on the ACOG, never mind all the other accessories, and buy a LOT of ammo, plus 7 magazines.
