Second, the hunter in question does shoot beyond 500 yards, and does so quite well, I might add. I don't give that compliment out lightly.
Third, no one is saying the 25 cal doesn't do a good job on critters-Zee has one already.
Ernie, I agree, and that's why i put the disclaimer that it was NOT directed at Zee. I just had to mention this because,,, well I just thought a lot of people were getting overwhelmed about this choice. Guys like you, Zee and beartracker AINT the average hunter here. You guys have special skills and my hat is off to both of you and also guys like BT who work at this.

Oh and yeah, the bit about the .25s was a reminder that they too and other cartridges are more than adequate for plain old deer hunting within more normal ranges, if there is such a thing.

You have to admit, your ability to make long shots as you do, didn't fall in your lap. And you don't use just any cartridge and bullet. It was meant as sort of a reality check is all. OK I'll go to my room now. Sorry if I ruffled feathers, but then again I'm so darn good at it,

No ruffled feathers here, nor do I question the capability of the 6mm or 25 cal cartridges. I doubt people are getting that overwhelmed, rather, just stating their preferences.
I shoot beyond 1K with the performance level of a Dasher in 6mm, and I have seen great shooting at 1K with both the 257 Roberts and the 257 AI in 15" & 18" barrels.
Not made any kills much beyond 500 with a 6mm (6-284, which gives 243 Win rifle performance). Haven't used a 25 in a while and never in a SP.
Bullet construction, impact velocity, shot placement (Plus--Whether or not it hits bone), hydrostatic shock, shot angle, excitability of the critter, etc., plus some other variables all go into how an animal reacts.

You forgot the mamba-black-ju-ju-killin'-majic that the manufacturers ONLY include in every batch of 7mm bullets...

Snake, I too love the .25cal for a hunting gun. Love my .25-06!

Only shot two animals with it so far. A whitetail at 100 and an antelope at 250yrds. Both just fell over at the shot. It's a flat shooting, low recoiling, effective cartridge. An excellent medium game rifle.

But, this isn't about that gun. I want more. ;-)
Lord, make me fast and accurate. Let my aim be true and my hands faster than those who would seek to destroy me. Grant me victory over my foes and those that wish to do harm to me and mine. But Lord, if today be the day that you call me home, let me die in a pile of empty brass.
