I am leaving on Sunday... not posting that in a public forum, and will be gone a week.  No time to tune / dial in a new load.  I know the Silver Tips, Hornady and PMC all  function perfectly.

Where you hunting at?  Who you going with?

I'll be just off I-50 in Cimmarron for second rifle.  Chiro and some of his kids are going, my FIL, my SIL.   Unit 65.

Anyway, we rented a massive 6 br house to stay in, if you're passing through, stop by!

  • Ah, so that recurve crossbow should make life a LOT easier, especially if it works with a rope cocker.  That will dramatically cut down on your shoulder stress.

As for crossbows, people just about everywhere think they can just walk around the public woods and sling an arrow at a deer.  It’s like you said: they think it’s a substitute for practice and basic woodsmanship. With deer, I use mine in extremely tactical scenarios where drawing a bow is not practical.  It will never be a substitute for the thrill and timing of a vertical bow kill.

Unfortunately, a lot of folks are definitely looking for the easy button rather than the work and experience.

Dont want to hog up the pic thread any more..

The recurve is the crossgun that I am looking to get. I still have a recurve bow that is functional, but I have also dropped $$ going to a therapist for the left shoulder and have another appt Thurs.I am not going to pick it up this year. It will cost me approx what repairs to my almost 30 year old PSE fireflight (only bow I could find at the time with a 31.5 draw) to get the crossgun.
I was hurting all through Camp Perry lashing myself into the sling in prone.

Nice thing is its a massage therapist, so if she ever breaks up the junk in my shoulder it could be relaxing. She told me last time that it is messed up and the other one isnt great either. That I am a work in progress. :) As it stands, 2 naproxium sodium and a beer or 3 post therapy.

FYI I dont care for cross bows as implemented in PA. IMHO they are an easy button for healthy people who didnt want to practice and go against the spirit of the season. With the super fast compounds though, I guess it is a wash. However, I have always seen the reason for them for old guys who didnt sit at a desk all of their lives.
