I have been shooting a 6.5-06 for about 25 years.  Mine is built on a 1st. generation Ruger Model 77 action, the one with the tang-mounted safety.  Its first barrel was a 22 inch Adams & Bennett (Midway USA) barrel that I rechamberd to 6.5-06 from 6.5X55.  Unfortunately, that leaves a small section of the case that must expand on the first firing to the dimensions of the Swedish case, and that leaves a ridge at the case head area where there's a possibility of head separation with reloaded brass.  Later, I found a barrel chambered for 6.5X57 and reamed it to 30-06 case length.  I shoot Nosler 125 grain Partition bullets at 3100 FPS for deer, using RL-19 powder, and 100 grain Speer hollow points at 3400 FPS for vermin, woodchucks, crows, etc.  I don't recall the powder for that load at the moment, possibly IMR 3031.  Both rounds are extremely accurate, shooting overlapping-hole groups at 100 yards, routinely.  I have a 24 inch barrel on the rifle at the moment.

A very simple way to make the brass is to run .270 brass through a RCBS case-forming die sold by Huntington's of Oroville California, and file-trim the excess brass that sticks out the top of the die.  .270 brass is about 2MM longer than .30-06, with the same position and angle of the shoulder.  The difference is only having to reduce the case neck size to .264" from .277" instead of necking down from .308" on the .30-06 case.  Less reworking of the brass results in longer case life.  Once the case is formed, then it's run through a full-length resizing die, also from RCBS.  I have been using that method very successfully for about 25 years.

Huntington's is the vendor for all RCBS products, especially custom production dies and other wildcat accessories.  They are located in the same town as RCBS, Oroville California.    Good luck on  your project!
