I get the impression that Patton was one of those folks who looked at the whole German picture and decided that, minus the Hitler-spawned genocidal racism, there was a lot to admire and emulate. Patton WAS all about discipline, and who would be more rigidly disciplined than the Germans? Seeing that kind of discipline in a civilian population was probably his wildest dream come true. Little wonder he embraced it.

Hans Guderian and Erwin Rommel are still required reading for the armor corps. We read about Napolean and realize about over-extension....same with Alexander. "The Mask of Command" is a great book as a tool. The Wehrmacht's tactic of "Blitzkrieg" is still the model of battlefield success to this day, it's the first model of Combined Arms Warfare. Patton recognized and enschewed upon this....always be on the offense....that's why we say, the best defense is a violent offense. Take out the rear with the planes....pummel the lines with artillery to weaken them......then go in like Samurai and slice the enemy apart with armor and infantry.

Big picture wise the Allies were never prepared to take the losses the Red Army did and the Germans had to. Both the Germans and the Soviets were amazed at how the allies fought, never realizing that they fought that way because they could afford to. The war would have ended much sooner had the British and American armies fought the way the other 2 did. But if they had many of us likely wouldn't be here.

My opinion ends with the Bonus Army attack.

You have the same opinion of Lt. Dwight D. Eisenhower and Douglas MacArthur (I think he was a Captain at the time)? They were involved as well....My point being, the attack on the Bonus Army is something that every American should hang their head in shame over...BUT throwing the blame on some Junior LTs, is taking it kinda far...I mean there WAS a President and some senior staff involved...

You have to realize that the Greman's supply train was run out by the time it got to the eastern front....their viscious campaign at the beginning with a torch the earth philosophy like Sherman's march to the sea did not endure them to be taken prisoner......they had to fight to the death because their only other option was.....death by execution....one by their own political officers, two by the Red Army. Stalin knew he had numbers on his side, and the Red Army was incompentant in a military sense.....they wasted many lives with stupid tactics......we had industrial might against a Nation who's industry had to go underground by our bombings....we were untouched in America, and could build build build. Another thing that took the Axis by surprise was the ferocity of the American and British Soldiers.....they had in their heart, the only way out of that mess was through Berlin....resolve does a lot for spirit. Now add to that the motivation of revenge.

The Wehrmacht could have succeeded had it not been for Nazi interference and agenda....The German's ain't stupid people....they are some of the best warriors since the era of the Roman Empires From the French Gauls to the Visgoths.....they're method of unit cohension is copied by our own militaty with Cohort units....practically everything our military is these days stems from the French and the Gemans.....our ranking system is French.....Private....Corporal...Sergeant....Lieutenant, Colonel, General....our tactics were refined by Baron Von Steuban (sp) in the Revolutionary war....we refined guerilla warfare in the French/Indian war, and the war of 1812.....Guerilla warfare won the civil war and every war after that......when America takes the gloves off and fights dirty, we win.

We are a Nation of street fighters....we have people that will go toe to toe against a larger force and fight for their lives.....(73 Easting) because when we have our backs against the wall.....we get all Rocky on someone and fight for the lives of the person next to us. That's really what it comes down to.
