Let's finalize plans for the Texas Shoot (17 September 2011)

Hey guys last time we talked about this we finalized on the third weekend of September (the 17th) for the Texas Shoot. Now let's finalize the rest of the plans.

My vote for location is Lone Star Gun Range in Lockhart, TX: http://www.ctxpta.com/id5.html

Their hours are from 9 AM to dusk, which gives us pretty good flexibility as far as plans.

I vote that we meet around 11-12 in Lockhart, probably in the parking lot of Kruetz BBQ (http://www.kreuzmarket.com/index.shtml) Then head out to the range (everyone gets lunch on their own or brings it). This puts us at starting shooting around 1230 or 1245. I figure we can roam around from rifle to pistol as we please (and depending on group size) and once we're all out of ammo (or tired) we can regroup, close out with the range officer, and head back to Kruetz for some good BBQ (I'm guessing this will be NLT 6 PM, but that all depends). Then we can linger as we wish and just shoot the fat and tell lies with no solid closing time.

How does this sound to everyone? We could pretty easily shift this to shooting in the morning and eating around 2ish if we please. Ideas, suggestions anyone?

I'll be able to go down for the day. I've heard good things about the range.

Do you still want me to swing by Harvard on the Brazos and pick you up? (That's what my dad, an old school aggie, calls it)

Regretfully I must back out of attending the shoot this time around. Spirit is willing but flesh is vain, y'know.

Doc's orders, not for me to spend too much time in the hot weather, and he's right -- I simply don't have the stamina yet.

Gang, have a great time and be sure to post lotsa pics. I'll do my best to be there next year.

Understood Sam. Would a great big beach umbrella help? I'm thinking we could make this a quarterly/semi-annual deal.

ADRidge, Possibly. How far out of the way is it for you?

I'm tentatively in. Nothing conflicts right now.

Shotgun, travel is no biggie, it's just the outdoor heat this summer is too extreme, shade or not. I can do maybe an hour or so, then I get fatigued. And it's not a "good tired" feeling either, instead it's dizziness and shortness of breath, something I CANNOT take lightly. It's just my body rebuilding from the stress of a near-heart attack and that's how it is for the next couple months.

The range location sounds great, an easy drive from Houston on I-10 mostly, the T-Bird will sail there nicely. So another shoot, maybe late fall or spring, weather being more temperate and myself being better healed, would be excellent.

It's just that right now my stamina is still limited and the extreme heat combine to keep me indoors except for modest times outdoors.

I'll be there in spirit and will enjoy the pics. And barring the apocalypse, you can look for me next time for sure!

Still looks good to me, unless something unforeseen comes up.

bullsi, you bringing that Mares Leg and did your new pistol come in yet?

SS3, you bringing your S&W model 48 and your new Ruger?

    I can, and not yet.

Oh, but I do need to get the Saiga out and test the heck out of it :)

It's like another hour or two, but I don't mind if you wanna ride together.

Nah, the drive total is about and hour and a half for me, so no worries if you've got to go that far out of your way.

    Big Chief,

The Ruger is coming, plus the 9mm 1911 twins (Colt and STI). However, I left the revolver in Lubbock because I was moving and wanted to store it safely. My guns here stay locked in a locking case but I need to get a cabinet up here. If Dad can attend the Smith might make an appearance then.
