Notes from Ned on Irene

As I was sitting around here hot as Haties, I had all sorts of complaints I was waiting for power to come back on so I could cry about it on the forum. Then when systems came back up when we got power at 1730 today and got some national news about the devastation north of us, the Lord my God took favor on us. The pic's I'll add to this will soon show how good we had it.
Some folks had trees fall though their homes, as I was told; I have not been out of the neighborhood so I have no first hand knowledge. My son got within a foot of having water in the house when the wind shifted and the river went down. [ wind tide influence ]
The dammage to the garage is slight, once I get the tree off, it should not be a big issue; I'll see in the morning when I have a guy with a front end loader coming to take the strain off and cut it.
In one of the pic's, you will be able see I was not too upset since I was not wearing my shrimp shirt.
Anyway here are the pic's.

Glad you made it through with little damage ... I'll be heading down to Oriental this weekend to lend a hand on the aunt and uncle's place on Green's Creek. They had a fair surge but only a couple downed trees and truck loads of limbs and such. They know they lost whatever was in the fridge and freezer (that bait freezer was bad enough already). Anyway the eye was maybe 10 miles from their place so they were lucky also. Aunt Bobbie is saying "The season ain't over so we gotta keep on our toes" I hope she's wrong but they've had that place for 30 plus years and have been through this MANY times so she knows her stuff.

Glad you only had mild damage, God figured you needed to add some wood to the wood pile.

Glad everything was OK Ned. Remember the Insurance adjuster is NOT your friend. If you need that roof repaired under your insurance policy make sure you get it all done right, and don't accept on the surface what the insurance guys tell you.

Consider this a training run for any cat 3 or above storm

Made the repair to the roof today, had to go cut a downed tree in #2 son's yard, and he came and helped put the evacuated room back together since Clean can't really work like that anymore.

Cat 4 and I'm leaving.

All 'yall cleaning up and cutting up downed trees and limbs with chainsaws be V-E-R-Y C-A-R-E-F-U-L! I can tell you hands down from running logging operations that cutting storm damaged wood is about like substituting a broken beer bottle for toilet paper!!! Wood is twisted and under strain, and you think it looks normal.....until you cut into it. Insurance underwriters who insure loggers usually have a clause excluding coverage in cutting storm damaged wood, especially tornado downed timber, and you better believe that small tornados are very common in hurricane winds. Just be dang careful!

Yeah, the boy's tree was twisted some and that is the last tree I need to fool with; thanks for the warning.
