My concept for final plans for the Texas Shoot

shotgunshooter3shotgunshooter3 Posts: 6,112 Senior Member
Hey all, here is what I think could work pretty well for the TX Shoot this coming month on 17 September 2011. If this doesn't work please respond to this email and sound off with what will.

We meet at Noon at Kruez Market (http://www.kreuzmarket.com/index.shtml) in the parking lot. We don't eat there, but use it as a rally point to get together before making a caravan to the range. Don't worry, food is involved, just after the shooting! I figure we can hang around in the parking lot until about 12:20 to make sure everyone coming gets there, then we head off to Lone Star Gun Range (http://www.ctxpta.com/id2.html). No need to set any real timeline for shooting, I figure we can just shoot until we run out of ammo!

Following the shooting, we can rally up and head back to Kruez for some good BBQ, take a group picture, then go our various ways.

How does this sound to everyone?

Thus far I have participants as Bullsi, Big Chief, ADRidge, Snake_284, and myself. Are we missing anyone?

Any input is greatly appreciated, I just more or less modeled this off of what worked last time. I may call the range and ask about a group rate, but they said the last time I talked to them that they usually only do that if you're going to close off an entire range.

Well, it sounds like a great plan. But I have to back out. I just snagged a job at a local gun store/range and I'm working weekends from 11a-9p. Y'all go shoot it up for me, I'll be there in spirit.

Why so late to start? Maybe we could meet @ 0800-0830 or so, go shoot before it gets hot and or crowded and then come back for lunch at the BBQ joint?
    Just a thought.

Well, depending on what the fires do, that might change the plans. The Bastrop fires are pretty close to Lockhart

The red arrow is where the range is IIRC.

I actually have to drive through Bastrop to get to Lockhart. This could be very problematic indeed.

Any updates? Is it still a go? Anyone know if the range is open with the fires raging on?

I think Lockhart is safe for now, but a lot can happen in a week.

We may want to consider another date a few more weeks away, just a thought.

Any changes...still a go? My only issue is I had a tooth extracted/busted/split/pulled last week and the dentist had to cut/grind into my jawbone to get at the long curved roots. So no rifles fer me or any that thump anyhow. It's still sore and the stitches haven't fallen out yet.

So, I'll probably just bring handguns.

Time line is up on the original post. I will call the range tomorrow and see if they are up and running. Does anyone have any updates on the fires themselves?

Last I heard as 50% contained. I'll call the range later and make sure everything is a go.

Just talked to them, they are open, and ready for us to come on down.

I think the highway through Bastrop is still closed, though.

Looks like I can use 290 and 130 to bypass Bastrop...

Well, re-post when and where we are supposed to meet this time.

Here it is here as well for good measure:

"I vote that we meet around 11-12 in Lockhart, probably in the parking lot of Kruetz BBQ (http://www.kreuzmarket.com/index.shtml) Then head out to the range (everyone gets lunch on their own or brings it). This puts us at starting shooting around 1230 or 1245. I figure we can roam around from rifle to pistol as we please (and depending on group size) and once we're all out of ammo (or tired) we can regroup, close out with the range officer, and head back to Kruetz for some good BBQ (I'm guessing this will be NLT 6 PM, but that all depends). Then we can linger as we wish and just shoot the fat and tell lies with no solid closing time."

Bumping this up, so are we good to go for tomorrow? I'm about to shoot an email to BC and Bullsi, but I don't have Snake's. Anyone else wanting/planning to make the pilgrimage that we don't know about?

I just made my ammo run yesterday, you know, because I "need the brass" and all that...

I have all needed approvals, and just need to pick up ammo.

BC requested the Rossi Ranch hand, and I'm bringing the Saiga 12 (http://forums.gunsandammo.com/showthread.php?846-Transformation-A-Saiga-conversion.-%28yay-for-gun-porn!%29). Any other requests for hardware to bring?

I certainly would not complain if the suppressed .45 or the 10mm showed up again, but I'm not picky. I went and bought 9mm and .223 yesterday, do I need to bring ammo contributions for anything else?

As a side note, I found out yesterday that 100 round boxes of 9mm are $21 at Wally World, and 50 round boxes are $13, my goodness.

Well, I'm almost ready to cancel, but unless things get worse, I'll be there. Long story short, I had a tooth with long curved roots extracted last week. I was still hurting and I thought I might have an infection. So I go to my dentist today, but his staff said he will be gone until next week sometime. So I finally get a referred to another one to look at me today.

He said I have some dry-socket/infection going on. He went in and put some awful smelling tasting crap in there and gave me a prescription for some more antibiotics.

So, I'm bring handguns only, don't want anything up against my right jaw. I will bring .44 mag/.44spl/.45 ACP/.357 mag/9mm/9x18 MAK/.22 lr guns n ammo.

    Plus some .223 ammo

How about meeting there at the BBQ joint @ 10-1030 in the morning?

Works for me. Sorry to hear about your dry socket BC. I haven't had one but I've heard that they can really SUCK.

Does 10:30 work for everyone? Shoot, at this rate it may be just us three again until TIMC's homecoming...

Yep, 1030 hours is good with me. I dunno what that dentist did today or squirted into my socket, but I feel better already.

I'll be late. Probably 11:30 or so. But I know how to get there, and know what you guys look like.

So do I! We had a great time, and watched real, honest to goodness RAIN clouds build over the 100 yard berm, and left right as the rain started. Any day we have water fall out of the sky is a GREAT day!

I think we will be doing another one of these soon.

bullsi can bust orange clay pigeons @ 100 yards with an Ishaphore Enfield .308 from a standing position! SS3 got to shoot a .338 Lapua rig that Cactus Shooter (BPsniper) would drool over. SS3 has the pics and will probably post later.:guns:

I had a great time:applause::applause::applause:, even though I couldn't shoot rifles due to my dry-socket. However, I darn sure chomped some sausage at the BBQ barn, albeit chewing was slow.:tooth:

Hey all, met some G&A guys at Lone Star yesterday. Nice bunch of guys.

My wife, kids, and I have been doing family/social shooting meets, aimed (pun intended) at families and newbies, around Texas for a couple of years.
