I think the board is just going through the expected growing pains associated with a massive series of changes that nobody really saw coming.
Nobody expected the board to go down for a month straight.
Nobody expected the entire archive to dissapear.
Nobody expected Dan J. to pass away.
Nobody expected Scott to depart so suddenly.
Nobody expected to see one of the most villified shows on the forum become an intergral part of the parent company's business concept.
Now, think about that. That is a TON of change in just a few short months. No way we'd get through all of that without some kickback In the end, I think folks will adjust and, most will respond to the new order of things. That goes for both the members and the leadership.
Speaking of those two entities, there's something that needs pointing out. For the leadership, the hostility you are seeing just part of what's great about this board. While it sucks to try to break through, you have to realize that it's nothing more than a healthy defense mechanism that has protected this place for years. Some folks might not know this: back in the day I remember Dan telling me (I want to say in a PM I sent him regarding a real mall-ninja jackwagon who was spouting off like the Dalai Lama of guns) that he was going to let the members kick this particular guy around for a little while longer before banning him. He understood that no fast banning would be as effective at keeping a numbskull from trying to re-join under a new screen name better than letting this fraternity of shooters burn him at the stake and then piss on his corpse. That same wolf pack mentality has quickly dispatched many anal orifices in the course of this forum's history. Again, it may suck now, but if you grow into it, it will suit your needs better than you realize.

:applause::group::hug: Thats a pretty good inspirational speech!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ain't really taught anyone here anything, but I sure have learned a lot here..... I joined here in 1999 when the G & A board was first getting started, and I got a lot of help with guns, post ammo reloading, etc. political education etc. I will miss Dan J. I have seen a few members come and go here and sadly pass on... I will stay.:usa: This is the best gun and ammo board around!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you BP for posting that! I'm more of a reader than a poster, but I've been here since 2003 (started out as High Tower and switched during one of the forum changes) and quite frankly all of this PMSey whining seems a bit out of control. How on earth can a reality show blog cause so much drama that it over rides the point of this forum? Work up some new loads, rebarrel something, take your kids shooting and put up pictures of their targets, etc...to me that is what the forum is about.
Thinking about the many sharp comments we've seen here lately, I believe it's a good thing! It means that the members actually care about this forum and want it to be the best. The energy shown in their strong comments is proof positive of how they value this platform and want it to remain strong.

What Ken said. No one would miss me if I left. But I would miss out on alot of good reading. Just for the record I think the TV show is stupid. But I have been here before the marshal was here. I remember the fights and the bull that went on that is why I stopped come here for a long time. SO BP scute your butt over and pass me a beer and the popcorn I ain't skeed of now new kid on the block.
So has anyone actually left the forum because of the new management:uhm:

I've seen Teach reading some threads so please don't jump to conclusions on that. I know he is hurt with good reason and hope he'll over look somethings cause there are to many here (99.9% of us) who care about him, need his guidance and would miss the knowlegde he gives ...

I have been watching these threads with a bit of concern, and so far have opted to stay out of the fray until things calmed down. BPSniper makes some excellent points, and for my 2¢ I have to count myself among the members who are staying.
It has been a tremendously difficult last few months, as has already been stated. Scott is a good friend of mine, and assures me that Ben is good to go, and while there will have to be a period of adjustment to the "new normal," that's good enough for me.
All of us here - Ben included - are still getting used to the tremendous changes that have been forced upon us. I will be staying, if for no other reason than to help maintain the quality and family focus that has made this forum my online home-away-from-home. Some of my best friends I have made here, and I won't walk away that easily.
Here endeth the sermon.
“A gun is a tool, no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.”
The new guy threating to ban folks if you bring up Scott's departure.
I think this is due to a lot of misunderstanding, and has since been recanted.
Teach made an offhand comment about why Scott left. It wasn't meant as a criticism of Scott, or in any way to demean him or attack his character. Ben, being new, and not knowing how to take the comments, interpreted it as a personal attack on Scott. He reacted, or rather over-reacted, and threatened to ban anyone who brought up Scott's departure. He has since backed off of that position and admitted to over-reacting.
The irony is that no one was attacking Scott, and all of us have high regard for him, including Ben.
I think there's been a lot of over-reacting lately, and it would be good for all of us to calm down and back off a bit. I'm willing to give Ben a chance to prove himself, as most of us seem to be.

I recently read in another post in another thread where one member (wish I remembered who, since it's sigline worthy) quoted his grandfather as saying, "Now, the most important thing, son, is to not get overly excited".
Sound advice, methinks.

Thank you BP - I'm still here everyday, posting little, but always learning something new about shooting, hunting, and more than fair dose of human decency thrown in to boot. I agree this is one of the best places on the 'net.

Just knowing this will keep me here a while longer!!
No, it's because I physically CAN'T walk away, not with this "baggage". I've no choice but to stay, 's, stupid TV reality show blogs and all.

Dunno why, but a certain line from a Skynard song popped into my head when I read that..... The same tune talks about old Neil......
