Are Shortages Easing?

41magnut41magnut Posts: 1,306 Senior Member
Recently I have received, and / or been notified of availability, of items that were B/O'ed or on a wish list, from as far back as December.

I have received,or been notified of shipment of,

Glock magazines,

Stripped AR Lower,

Sierra, 155 grain Palma bullets, (500 count).

When I score a case of 22LR match ammo, I will be very pleased. :tooth:

I'm not ready to declare the panic over, but at least I know these items are in production and entering the pipeline.

Supply is better. Prices are not.

Gunbot.net list a lot of .22 match ammo. Around here, it seems to be a little worse. I've been getting ammo from WalMart. They've been getting .22s, 9mms, .40s, .45s, .38s......something....nearly every day. Last couple of weeks, they'e gone up to 3 days with nothing, zip, nada, on the trucks. Gone from 5-6 loads a week down to 2-3.

Some prices are coming down. But not all.

Not here...just adapting to the delivery schedules...seriously. If a shipment comes Monday it'll be gone on Tuesday. Just make sure you get there on Monday...

I dropped in on a LGS this morning less than 30 minutes after they opened. I asked about 9mm, 38 Special and 45 ACP ammo. They didn't have any at all.

They also didn't have any .22 LR ammo, but thought they might be getting some in later in the week.

While I was there, I bumped into my neighbor. He told me that he wasn't even able to find shotgun primers.

Doesn't seem like easing to me.

Not here, I do see mags for sale on the Guide web site.

As of this morning I'm going to say NO! Tries Dick's, Bass Pro, and Wally World. No luck for anything except shotgun ammo.

I'm still looking for S&W Shield mags.

I have noticed on auction sites that the cost of entry-level AR15 and Saiga .223 rifles is dropping fast - DPMS Oracles are actually selling for LESS than their MSRP and Saiga .223 rifles no longer get bids three times their list price. Bushmaster Carbon 15 rifles are going for 8-ish. Not too bad. I don't know about components like complete uppers and stripped lowers, but just thinking about them makes me horny.

Ammo is still ridiculously priced, as are many magazines. The highest quality magazines cost about $3-$4 to make, including packaging - remember that when you think $15-$25 is a good deal. WE MUST KILL ALL DEMAND until sellers get the message - not a penny more than before the panic for anything. Otherwise, they'll think we're just a bunch of idiots with more money than brains. And they will be sooo right as they laugh all the way to the bank. I can wait.

Not around NE PA...1 box of 50 rnd. .22, $4.99. Some shorts, $4.99 for 50...shotgun ammo coming around, but not worth the asking price. I'll wait.

Like the last go-around when things settle and ample supplies are available, the prices never get back to what they once were pre-frenzy buying.

I'm just ready for reloading supplies to become readily available. I have plenty of bullets, primers, and cases. I'd like powder to get easier to find.

I'd say it is worse here now than it was in late December. Overall there is just less stuff on the shelves. Magazines have started to show up again (at inflated prices) but not much else is showing any signs of returning to normal availability.

Stopped by WM this morning. They got in 10 375rd. boxes of CCI AR .22s, 1 box of .380s, 1 box of .45s, 2 boxes of .357s and sundry hunting ammo. They still have the Beretta CX4 Storm 9mm on the rack and one in the back room, $849.

Stopped a little while ago at a store in a small town that just recently got into the gun & ammo business(main business is furniture).. He had 3 boxes of Armscor Precision 50 rd .22lr and 2 boxes of Centurion 50 rd boxes for $12/box. 1- 225 rd box of Remington .22lr Golden for $50.00. Said he was making $3.00 on it. Also said he had just sold a brick for $100. Said he bought this ammo from an individual.

He did have a decent selection of Remington Core Lokt hunting ammo in calibers that are most common around here: 30-30, 35 WHelen, 06, .243, etc. I don't recall exact prices but they were $25-$30 I think. No pistol ammo at all.

In my local fram & fleet store, the only handgun ammo is 327 fed magnum(10 boxes) plenty of shotgun selections, averagerifle selection and even had about a dozen boxes of Win .223 55gr pp ammo at 23.99 ea.
If they were not so stupid expensive, I think I would buy a 327 just because .

F & F up in Green Bay had about the same...lots of shotgun stuff, very picked-over selection of center fire stuff still on the shelves but expensive. Like double the price you'd normally see. The only .22 I saw was bird shot.

Lots, and lots of empty bays.

I would say it is slowly easing but not very fast. I was able to purchase a couple thousand rounds of .22 ammo at high but not rediculous prices.

No serious shortages or price problems in the places I frequent. I bought an extra brick of SK/Lapua target .22 LR ammo yesterday for $44.99 and a pound of Unique for $16.99. Primers are readily available. My cast bullets of choice are hard to find, but that's been an ongoing issue.

You, Sir, are very fortunate, and one of the few that I have heard of that isn't experiencing some sort of shortage.

Perhaps the large cities have better supplies, but small-town America is still experiencing shortages. I suppose we'll have to wait until the horders have their fill before we get back to "normal."

My Wally World had 12 boxes of 223 this afternoon. WBST 31 dollars a box for 20 rounds. That is good ammo but to expensive to plink through an AR.

I went to the gunshow in Ft Lauderdale this morning. Group with the largest table had all kinds of ammo for sale but at scalpers prices. Sad thing is people were paying $99.00 for a brick. Of .22lr And. $325.00 for 500 rounds of 9mm. As I just walked around checking out prices I noticed lots of guns but all priced like it was the last gun left. I did find another dealer selling ammo at a much more reasonable prices. $19.99 for 50 rounds of 9mm.
