When our governing officials dismiss due process as mere semantics, when they exercise powers they don’t have and ignore duties they actually bear, and when we let them get away with it, we have ceased to be our own rulers.

I wonder who the first person was who looked at one of those and said, I'm gonna put that in my mouth!

I've wondered the same thing about crustaceans and mollusks.

What about the first person who looked at a chicken and thought "I'm gonna eat the next thing that falls out of that bird's butt"? I've got a friend who calls morels "dry land fish". I've never found one on our 100 acres in close to 30 years of looking- - - - -they're elsewhere nearby, but we don't have any for some reason!

Some of those things could be the result of observation. Hence the expression, "You egg suckin' dawg!". But I wonder who decided to soak olives in brine. They are unusually untasty straight off the tree. Or who figure out that if you wash manioc root paste in three changes of water it won't poison you.

Actually, some olives are cured in lye. It needs to penetrate almost, but not quite to the pit, and then be washed repeatedly in clean water to remove the chemicals before trying to eat the olive. I had several friends in California with olive trees who did their own curing in used whiskey barrels. Quite a process, with lots of ways to get it wrong! Olives "ripe off the tree" are so bitter they're impossible to eat.

Here's one lye method, used on green, not ripe olives:

Four of us picked about 2 gallons this afternoon in a about an hour and half, just got done eating the tasty mor(s)els. They are just now going good, found about 15 last Sunday when it was much warmer than today.

Try near the burn barrel or anywhere that was on fire about 3 years ago or longer.

Anywhere near a dead elm tree or an old apple orchard.

Looks Great! I grew up in the Platte river valley in central Nebraska, and the Morels were plentiful!

Crabs, shrimp, lobsters, crayfish, krill, and prawns are all crustaceans. Unless you are referring to the parasitic version that make the nether regions itch.

I never understood why anybody would eat a nasty fungus.

The asparagus should be popping soon in my area, now that's some good eating!

Never understood why someone would eat something that tastes like asparagus a SECOND time.

When I win the lottery, I'll be having asparagus with my ribeye steak, mushrooms, and Shiner beer...every day for the rest of my life.

Shiner beer? Every day for the rest of your life? You gotta set your sights a bit higher!

Shiner used to pass for one of those fancy foreign brews, in the social circles I run in. Besides, I ain't one to give up on a beverage, just 'cause it's gone out of style.
