Mauser 12 looks great!

Anyone see the G&A email on the new Mauser bolt gun? Looks very nice and comes with a 2 lb trigger or so the video said. Jeweled bolt 3 position safety. Didn't list calibers but looks set up for magnums. Price is listed $1495.00. There can never be too many good bolt guns. :applause: Later,

Hmmmmm- - - - -pretty good quality, but it's a push feed Remington 700 wannabe with a Weatherby-style 60 degree bolt rotation and 6 locking lugs. Way too expensive, also. Big yawn!

What am I missing? I thought one of the defining characteristics of any mauser was that it was a controlled feed. How can it be a push feed and a mauser both?

This is a new design- - - - -the only thing "Mauser" about it is the name.

Yeah, these new Mausers have nothing in common with Paul or Wilhelm but their family name. However, though I prefer the old CRF 98 style Mausers, I would bet these are of very high quality. I've seen some in magazines and the fit and finish is nothing short of immaculate.

The guy on the video was German, does that count? Later,

"Mauser" has done it before, with a butt-ugly European-style bolt action with a weird sliding receiver top and mostly metric chamberings, introduced about 30-something years ago. They didn't sell well because of the strange design and the inflated price. This one's got a more conventional appearance, but the price is at least twice what a good-quality American rifle costs, and I'll bet the customer base is going to be comprised of the guys with more money than brains who just have to have the latest gimmick.

They don't turn my crank. If it's Mauser, for me to buy it, it better have a CRF action and be at least a clone of a 98 design, I don't care how pretty they look.

Like you say, you can buy a lot of American Bolt Action for that money.

I don't like bolt lug lockup inside the barrel shank; lugs are necessarily smaller and weaker. I don't like the 6 locking lugs; it's nearly impossible to make 6 locking lugs make firm and full contact with their mating surfaces without a lot of lapping. Bolt jeweling is a big 'Meh' for me; don't particularly care for it, and if I want it I can do it myself. And that bolt shroud turns me off big time. It's FUGLY! Three position safety is O.K., though. I can buy an American made rifle for that money and get a better rifle. I'll pass on the Mauser 12.

I think the one Teach is talking about is the M- 66, standard, safari, & stuzen. Mauser also made Ms 77, 86,93,96, 98 (not 1898) & 99. They were chambered from 243 Win to 500 Jeffry.

What Jay said, people hear Mauser and only think of the 98 (or possibly 95/96). Kind of like hearing Remington and only thinking of the 700, not the other dozen plus actions they've produced. I saw an 03 Mauser a few years back at BassPro and it was a WELL made firearm. Yes, its still a push fed rifle, but dang it was sweet. I think its a bit more then a spruced up Savage.
