Far from "There's never a cop around when you need one." In England, it "There's never a cop with a gun around when you need one." Hell, there's never a gun around when you need one...

Rest in peace trooper....

I had a bad knee jerk when I heard that terrorist speak,
he sounded like a Jamaican gang member from Kinston, NC.

Video on the news about that was pretty gory. And the cops shot both perps and they lived. They need more range time.

    RIP soldier.

I saw the press conference with the Prime Minister and Home Secretary, and I don't believe either of Her Majesty's Ministers referred to this as a workplace incident, or blamed it on a YouTube video, or asked in petulant defiance, "at this point, what different does it make?"

I see that the terrorists are in the hospital...it's painfully obvious that the "armed police" need a little more range work. I know they are relatively new to this whole "gun thing" but geez...how hard can two to the chest and one to the head be?

I was reading on Drudge. It was mentioning something about women being 1 in 5 of the police force, yet a smaller percentage (I can't recall) of "armed" officers.

So, does this mean not all cops are armed over there?

Taken from the news story, note the bolded line:

The first call about an assault came in at 2:20 p.m. (9:20 a.m. ET). At some point afterward, police responded, including armed members of a firearms unit[/B], even though British police typically don't carry guns. Metropolitan Police Commander Simon Letchworth noted that "early reports" indicated the attackers had "weapons." Metropolitan Police say they're aware of reports it took 30 minutes for police to arrive.

A question: Thirty minutes?! How freaking long would it take if the guy wasn't being hacked to death?!?

Exactly...."Armed Police" is a relatively new concept....guess they finally figured that harsh language and a stick just doesn't work all the time....

How is that gun control working?
guy with a revolver and a kitchen knife, he had what looked like butcher’s tools and he had a little axe, to cut the bones, and two large knives and he said 'move off the body’.

Laws don't stop bad people. They only punish the ones that are caught.

Lesson- never be disarmed. Carry a cane, an improvised flail, a sturdy pen... ANYTHING. Because the news would be a lot better if it was "Soldier saved by bystander who brains terrorist with laptop"

The police in general are not routinely armed, the exceptions being the
Civil Nuclear Constablulary Glock 17 and HK G36
MInistry Of Defence Police HK MP7 and Sig Sauer P229
both are not Home Office Police Forces

regular police armed units are armed with usually Glock 17 HK G36, MP5, AR15 semi auto's
sniper units either the Accuracy International L96, HK PSG1, and i think a few remmy 700 as well

to say this is a horrific murder is an understatement, the soldier murdered has been identified as being 25yr old Drummer Lee Rigby, he has a 2 yr old son

    RIP Drummer Rigby

What were the bystanders doing while they waited a 1/2 hour for the cops to get there? Taking pictures? Chatting with 2 nut jobs? Never a soccer hooligan around when you need one.

One lady was talking the terrorist down. Pretty courageous, actually. I'll try to find the article.

She asked what his intent was and he replied, "to start a war." She said, "You're going to lose," and asked for his weapons.

No worries. The British government has things in hand and has a great weenie solution. The British government has advised its soldiers that it is probably best not to appear in uniform on the streets of London! Chamberlain lives.

Every time a Muslim terrorist kills an American (or a Brit) we should drop a B52 load of 500lb bombs on one of their holy shrines. See how long they want to play that game.

That solution is just all kinds of wrong. When a soldier can't walk the streets of his own country in uniform it's time to take the country back.

Same thing happened here in the States...during my time in the Army, (1969-1974) we were advised not to wear the uniform off post

That was sort of a "Catch 22" Jay- - - - -in order to fly "Military Standby" we had to be in either a Class A or a Class B uniform, but doing so to get the discount tickets made us a target at every airport in the country. More than a few of my friends used their hand-to-hand training to even the odds. Hippie heads made a satisfying-sounding thump when they hit pavement!

Islamofacist are everywhere and no the world ain't no safer under the Obammy administration, even if they refuse and are reluctant to call a spade a spade.

They (Terrorist) want to cut our (Infidel) throats ear to ear, why is that so hard for the PC crowd to accept? The GWOT (Global War On Terrorism) is far from over and injecting nice sounding polite words ( Like Workplace Violence/Homegrown/Disenfranchised Immigrant) in their descriptions of a terrorist attack won't make them go away.

I think it will take another 9/11 scale attack (Heaven Forbid and I pray:angel2: it won't happen again) for some to pull their collective heads outta their arses and wake up to the very real threat we face.

I should really disagree with that idea...and I do. I wouldn't limit it to Americans and Brits. Add Jews and Christians everywhere to the list, and we take out a mosque in the same country as the muslims' horrible deed is done.

I was in the Army from 1965-1968, serving at Ft. Polk, LA, Vietnam, and Ft. Bragg, NC. Never was I encouraged to not wear a uniform off post. If I were in the British army and told that it was too dangerous to be seen in public in uniform in my own country, I'd say it's time to bring our troops back home to patrol the streets of London. To hell with Iraq and Afghanistan. Let those bastards kill one another!

Something's messed up in Britain. Ordinary policemen are unarmed. Honest citizens are unarmed. Sounds like criminal's paradise. According to a comment by Tom Gresham on his radio show, you will be arrested and likely to go prison if you were to shoot a home invader. Watch out, guys, modern history has showed that everything bad that happens in England, comes to America within 10-20 years.

I was in from 71-76 and we had the same advisory. But EVERY TIME I had to travel under orders in the States I had to be in either dress whites or blues due to the nature of what I was doing and where I was going. I avoided a few instances of assault by dropping my seabag I had slung over my shoulder and going into full blown foul language mode at the top of my lungs and advancing on the person(s) wanting to tangle. Seemed to work as no one wanted to tangle with what appeared to be a lunatic with a lack of any semblance of self preservation.

On a lighter note, I impressed a couple of Marines at JFK airport. One of them said even his DI in boot camp didn't use that much foul language, and he didn't recognize some of the words.:roll2: I was extremely mad to start with(long story to do with my Division Officer prior to travel), and the two greasy hippies messing with me pushed me over the edge. Looking back on that incident now it's kind of funny.

Being stationed near San Francisco in the mid-1970's had its pros and cons. Pros: great weather, the mountains and the beaches were approximately the same driving distance, just in different directions, Reno Nevada casinos were about a 3-hour drive, and the fishing in some of those lakes way up in the Sierra Nevada mountains had fish that would literally fight over a piece of bait once the ice melted in the springtime. Cons: more radical anti-war activists per square mile than anywhere else in the world! Of course, hunting hippies in the Haight-Ashbury district, the ones with with American flag patches sewed onto the back pockets of their tie-dyed jeans was fun. We left more than a few of them with a shiny hiney and nursing various knuckle bumps after we encouraged them not to sit on the symbol of their freedom!
