Zed, hear me out for a moment. I've read a lot of good things about the Springfield XDS in .45; now I know you're not fond of the XD in general, but this is a bit different from the other models. I've even considered one for meself.

I went and handled a few different guns today. The reality, anything like the Shield, the XDs, Kel Tec, etc., I already have in my Glock 27 and S&W 340 M&P. By that I mean, I can carry none of them any better or any different than my current guns. Therefore, they give me no benefit.
The one gun that DID give me something new was the 9mm Diamondback.
It was small enough and light enough to actually be worthwhile.
So, when I get a mouse gun, it'll probably be that one. Add that to the list of projects.

Shot'em both. The Diamondback is no better than the Keltec PF9 and probably not as good. The PF-9, compared to the XD-S is like comparing a Yugo to a BMW.
It's a source of great pride for me, that when my name is googled, one finds book titles and not mug shots. Daniel C. Chamberlain
Not warranted for +P or +P+ ammo, factory says nothing over 124 gr., some samples have been shown to be very sensitive to cartridge length, leading to the slide not closing, no slide stop/slide lock, magazines can be hard to drop, some testers report the trigger pins walking out within 50 rounds of ammo in early handguns, some reports of weak mag springs, some pistols don't like to feed Federal 124 gr. HST...
Why no Kahr? The trigger is long, but still better than the 340....
Good guns, but in 9mm............no smaller than my G27 in reality. I'm looking for something that considerably changes the carry options I have.
This would NOT be a carry around town gun. If I'm doing that...........I'm carrying something of substance.
I'm looking for an "around the yard", "walk down the road to get the mail" gun. Something that drops in Umbro style shorts and won't yank them down to my ankles. Something I can drop in my back jeans pocket and sit outside with the kids.
Not something I'm going to fight a war with.

I went with the Sig 938. 6 in the mag, basically a dolled up colt mustang in 9mm. But TINY, took a bit for me to learn to wrap my paw around it. If they make one smaller, I don't want it, this one is pretty snappy, even with 115 gr FMJ.
I had and carried a Kel-Tec PF9 for awhile before I got the Shield, and it's a fine pistol. You'll need to smooth out some casting flash on the frame, but I assume you're safe with a round file?
Otherwise, it's a nice little 9mm. I kinda wish I hadn't got rid of mine.

For what it's worth my BIL just bought one and he's been shooting it quite a bit with no problems at all. Maybe they had early production issues like KelTec. :uhm:
I might have to pick one up them.........I REALLY like the platform, but was worried about the QC issues when they first came out. If they've gotten their act straightened out, I would definitely prefer one of them over a Kahr.
That link's a 1903 .32. The 1908 was the same gun in .380. Mine's a 1926 production, which IIRC made it a second model without the magazine disconnect. In much the same way that a 1911 is easier/more comfortable to pack than a Glock, so is it with these when compared to a lot of the other pistols in the same caliber - they are CRAZY thin, factory de-horned, and really light even in spite of the fact they made them out of actual metal.
I just keep hoping somebody decides to resurrect these with modern sights (that are visible) and a little bigger thumb safety, which would make it totally competitive with any of the modern nasal inhalers. That's all it needs really - the heel magazine release may actually be an asset on guns that get carried close and tight.
The Kahr PM9 is seriously worth a look if the notion of FMJ's from the pipsqueak calibers bothers you, and you SHOULD wrap your carney hands around an XDs before dismissing it out of hand - it is a freakin' TINY.45.

The Kahr might end up being the only option in the end. Still holding out hope that the Diamondback has worked out its bugs. My LGS has sold several of the Diamondbacks and only had one require a trip back to the factory. Maybe they've gotten better.
I won't do the .380 chambering. Gotta be nine or above.
Yes, I've handled the XDs at my LGS. I used hand sanitizer afterwards. Still don't think I got all the germs off.

Looks like I'm back to looking at the KelTec.
Thanks for the good news. :bang:

Wow....it's been quite some time since I've seen a pair of Umbros.

I see what you did there.

It is.
The idea though (for me at least), is to get the smallest 9mm possible, outside of a thousand dollar Rohrbaugh, the DB9 is it.
Also, it looks like a baby, single stack Glock, by default I'm going to like it the best. :tooth:
Yep.
