Quick run down of how "Batman" (The name my wife gave this SP) did this week at the Sundance LR Handgun Comp.
I was fortunate to take first in all three distances in the Light Pistol division: 500, 750 and 1,000 yards.
We had some crazy winds this week.
My best 5-shot groups at distance were:
500 yards: 2.445"
750 yards: 4" and change (can't remember now-I'm TIRED).
1000 yards: 7.5"
We also did a 10-shot group at a grand in the relay because of impending weather and Batman had a 11.25" group and FWIW my heavy pistol (7WSM) had a 8" group for 10 shots.
These are not amazing groups, but considering the wind we had, I am very pleased.
Thursday my full value correction for wind was over 20 mph and the wind at the bench was 9-13 mph...It was really blowing hard closer to the target bolt
Wind/rain on Saturday late was so bad during the spotter period of the 1000 yard heavy pistol was so bad combined with rain we didn't get to do the shoot-off or the field course.
I decided to spot for myself for all of 500 and all of the 1000 yard groups. This was needed as I will be going to the F-Class World and Nationals in August.
Bob Baker (Freedom Arms) spotted for me at the 750 yard distances.
Batman tracks so good even under 7.5 pounds, that I could spot my own shots!
Eric Wallace (Nawakwa Accuracy) builds amazingly accurate SP's.
I walked away with a lot of goodies.
Thank you.
I takes some work to get the brass all formed and prepped, but I am really pleased with the end result.
If you decide to go that route in the future, I will be glad to walk you through it all and share load development.
Ernie, that is an awesome rig! You are getting about 70 f.p.s. more out of 105's than I am out of a 6 BR Norma chambered rifle with a 29 inch barrel!
I plan to have mine opened up to Dasher to get near the 3000 fps range and you're almost there with a much shorter barrel. Very nice!
Yes, I had a good time.
It is the largest gathering of long-range SP shooters in the US, if not in the whole world that I know of. We are a niche group as it is.
I put on a prairie dog shoot on private land for the guys who will be shooting at the match. Next year I plan to have the field course at that same ranch where we shoot dogs at.
It will let me do a long course in terms of time and distance and there will not be a time crunch as there has been in years past because of weather.
We do the dog shoot earlier in the week, before the actual BR match starts.

So, since you won, I take it you were the only shooter?
That was not to be shared publicly.

Here is one of Batman ready to roll.
