A .35 Whelen would fill out his collection rather nicely. After we enable him on that one, we will find another hole. Then another. And another...

    There is no escape.

I could do some serious enabling if he takes a liking to 350 Remington mag.

    He needs a 6.5 RM and a .350 RM.

Not so much the 6.5, but definitely the .350. Have you ever thought of that SS3? Ballistics of a 35 Whelen with a short action. It is a pretty neat cartridge. That is the elk thumper that you have been looking for.

I am going to have to check and see if there is a certain Remington model 7 with about 20 rounds through it still for sale. I seem to recall that it was right handed.

    I'll take a stab.

    7 IHMSA
    7 SAUM
    7 mm WSM
    7 Rem Mag Imp
    7 Dakota
    7 mm STW
    7mm LRM

That's how I see it in the books. I'm sure a couple could be splitting hairs and get flipped.

I consider the Dak and LRM as ballistic twins to the STW.
They are different, but fairly close as Zee posted.

Freezer, you have a hell of a list here. You have some very interesting ones too. One that tweaks my curiosity is the 6.5x257 Roberts. There is also a 6.5x57 that was a standard cartridge in some country's arsenals. It is nothing but a 7x57 necked down to .264. But I know that there are also the bring back **** Rifles type 38 that were 6.5 that were reamed to accept the .57mm case with the 6.5 bullet, because after WWII many of those who brought back the 6.5 **** back couldn't find ammo. So they reamed it to fit the .257 case, of which the 7mm Mauser and 8mm Mauser were the parent case. Which one was yours? The **** or the standard 6.5x57?

I said that years ago when I got my first .308 Winchester.

I keep forgetting, though. Right before I buy another cartridge.

A big 7 is about as good as it gets for distance field shooting. Not to much recoil compared to a similar sized 338.
With a future 195 grain Hybrid it will get even better.

Over the last couple of years due to health problems, the wife and I have trimmed down our gun collection to just a few basic calibers. The only center fire rifle caliber I load at this time is the .308. But I have fond memories of many of the other calibers listed by y'all.

Two get the bulk of my limited reloading time. My old reliable favorite hunting caliber gets limited experimentation, and will continue as such til I manage to stuff 26 hours in a day.

    1) 30-06
    2) 223R
    3) 308W

    Receiving limited loading time.
    3) 30-30
    4) 22-250
    5) 243W
    6) 7-08

They are so sweet. Remington says the new 600 is based on the Model 7 action. Well, that's pretty convenient because the Model 7 was based on the Model 600 action. Basically the model 7 was just a dressed up version of the model 600 improved to make it look more sophisticated, but still basically the same. Other than the cheapies the made since, the 788, 710, 770, and whatever they're making now, the 600, the 721, 722, and 725 and I believe the old Sportsman 78 were all basically the same actions. Of course the 600 and model 7 family is deminsionally smaller than the 700 family is the same design.

Too late. It might be awhile, but the enabling appears to be working. We need to get JB involved. He has a knack for finding obscure rifles.

I think the 6mm and 6.5 is going to my kids so I can pull the "for the children" card with those. That still leaves me with .223 WSSM and .220 Swift to find homes for.
