I will post on my new loading technique using two scales in another thread at some point. I did not use the extra scale for speed, it was for greater consistency. Lots of observations to report, but not right now.
Time is running out, my friend. Four weeks from now, we will be lying down on our bellies on top of crushed lava rocks with only a shooting mat to keep the flesh from getting torn to bloody pulp, looking through riflescopes at tiny targets 3000 feet away in the rarefied air of the George Tubb range at the NRA Withington Center, outside of Raton, NM, elevation 6600 feet. (How is that for an early morning image?)
Is your rifle ready? Is your load worked up? Do you have a minimum of 400 rounds loaded and ready to go?
I plan to drive out on the Saturday before around 5:00AM. It's a 13 hour drive, with an hour difference in NM. On Sunday, I will have all my stuff ready and my hotel room set up for the duration.
Well then, you know he is going to ship the stocks on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. He is also making the base, rings, and trigger guards.
He will also be sending the custom rear bags for the stocks as well.
I am content with the way things are. It is not like I am in control of when everything gets to me.
I don't know. Which gas stations will you find on I-25? I see you only have about 2/3 the distance I travel to get to Raton. Should be able to do that in 4 hours.
Dont listen to Peg, preparation is over rated. You can get at least a hundred yards in a Walmart parking lot, shoot for groups, confirm speed with your chronograph, then use software for your come ups. Easy peasy.
That's close to how I do my load development. The only difference is that I don use a Wal-Mart parking lot, I kept getting my target frames knocked down.
Hey cutie pie, no. I believe Ernie will be shooting F-Open and I'm shooting F-TR.
This will be a long 10 days of shooting and stuff invariably happens. I'm trying to cover all bases, but it's grueling. I know Ernie will do the same. I'm bringing lots of tools and crap and everybody tries to help everyone else.
I don't see how that's possible and still perform your pit duties. I am not aware of anyone else doing that, it would be a first. The two classes shoot together.
Ernie, I understand you plan to reload in Raton. Do you have all the components that you need? I have Wolf LR primers, Varget and bullets aplenty and my loading is done. Should I bring anything for you guys?
Thanks!
I think I have enough Varget.
I won't be using Wolf primers, since I don't have any of those to begin with.
I have like 30+ pounds of H-4831 for the 284 Win, so I am more than set there.
Spotting tri-pod/base we will be looking to borrow, when they are not shooting.
Also maybe a spare cart (or use one when someone else isn't shooting) to get stuff back and forth.
This is totally new for me, so I am not sure exactly what I need.
I have two shooting mats now.
For Open what kind of mat/board can I use?

I have been following your threads at accurate shooter. I like the pictures Seb put there, but you can't shoot pictures.
I have my last match before Raton this coming weekend.
He will also be sending the custom rear bags for the stocks as well.

You guys like to cut it CLOSE.
Do you have your accommodations in Raton?
