Finally, I brought the Ruger 77 Tang Safety rebarreled to 9.3x62 home.

My God! That's a big hole in the end! I don't have picks of it because my computer is so screwed up I can't get to the page in photo bucket that has a pic of this Ruger. But I'll keep trying.
Daddy, what's an enabler?

here's the rifle in 30-06. I'm working on getting a pic for you. I know, until then it's a figment of my imagination.....
Also, the scope in this pic is my old El Paso Weaver K-6. The scope on the 9.3 is a Leupold Vari X II 3-9x40, which is the same scope as the newer VX-1. I bought that scope for my .250 Savage and changed it out for a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40, and put this Vari x on the Ruger. I was thinking to get a 1.5-5x20 something, but decided this might pass more light with it's bigger objective. And if I need wider field of view and lower power I can screw it down as low a 3x. It's a good solid scope so why not use it.

I have no clue how it shoots Jerm, I don't even have any ammo or a die set for it yet. But that will be corrected tonight I hope.
It's surprising how many bullets are available for it. I'm like a kid in a candy store looking through the selection. However I don't want 250 grain. I can get those for a 30-06. It's BY GOD a 9.3 mm and I want some BIG bullets for it. Well, at least 286 grain bullets. I'm not going to be picky yet, I just want something accurate. Later I'll worry about killing elephants with it.
I was reading yesterday about it on the internet and one article said that even though it's below the minimum Caliber for dangerous game in most African countries, many countries make an exception for the 9.3x62 because of its record in the field. It's not a long range cartridge, but when's the last time you heard of an elephant or a Cape Buffalo being taken at 300 yards?
Well whatever, if this thing will flatten porky at 200-300 yards, I'll be happy. Maybe some day I'll get a chance at a Nilgai with it.

Working on it. It's actually right here beside me leaning on the bed. I'm going to take a crack at downloading some pics in photobucket. Last time I tried I didn't have any success. I need to get this computer debugged again. It's screwed.

Notice the big hole in the end? It's NOT a 30-06! Not anymore anyway!

This is $400 well spent. I got the exact same one on my .338 Federal (but with the heavier crosshairs). It sucks at the range, but is awesome in the field out to 300 yards and is phenomenal in low light. Perfect for hogs...

Thanks Jeremy, you saved me a lot of work, and you did it really fast. Anyway, I think I'll buy the Speers. The price is right and since I'm not planning an elephant hunt in the next month or so, the 270 grain bullets will suffice for now. So I'm ordering everything from Midway, Speer 270 grain Semi Spitzers, Brass, and die set. I have the right shell holder so I'll be in business to ahh.... Break in the Barrel! hahaha!!!

Yep....A Euro 35 Whelen deserves better...... I need a 9.3X62 bad.....why.........because I need one................Ken
Yeah, I know, don't ask me how! :rotflmao::rotflmao::rotflmao:
Anyway, here's for you doubting Thomas's

That's the 06 barrel under the attached 9.3. I lined the 06 barrel up with the beginning of its threads at the front of the receiver. Like I said, the 9.3 barrel is 2 inches longer than the old 06. Also, the Shilen barrel is a heavier contour than the Ruger.

24 inches. Dwight did a fantastic job of bluing it. It looks like a brand new Ruger. I didn't ask him if he blued the barrel separate before he put it on, but I think he probably blued it afterward, because there's no marks at all on it and he has mentioned that he likes to blue after he finishes all the work so as not to mar the finish.
The reason I mentioned that is because Ruger's blue looks more like it's a paint job it's so shiny. And the Receiver looks like it just came off the new rack at a gun store.
Well, here you see a dream that came to Frution. I bought this rifle off the used rack of my favorite gun store nearly 6 years ago with the intent of making a 25-06 out of it. Then I got the idea of making a Whelen. But then this Enabler type Character comes along and talks me into this. Actually I'm Tickled Pi....naw, I'm not going there, so let's just say I'm happy with it......

Words of wisdom from Big Chief: Flush twice, it's a long way to the Mess Hall
I'd rather have my sister work in a whorehouse than own another Taurus!
After all this it better be a "Thumper!" But the more I read on this cartridge, the more I'm hearing just what a "Thumper" it is. I don't know if I'll ever shoot at anything that will prove its worthiness in the world of dangerous game, but this thing has been used on all the "Big Five" With great success. So it should prove very effective on Porky, and above all be a lot of fun to shoot.

nanananana! This is the ZEE Contrast effect. Silver on black, LOL! Actually, it's one of my favorite scopes and it's really clear and I couldn't stand to put it on the shelf. I bought it because it matched a stainless barrel, but then one day Zee was talking about these contrasts and one of his had like Silver Rings, so I says why not everything black except the scope? That's a Leupold Vari X II 3-9x40 and it's got a wide enough range that it matches the rifle and my eyes. 3 is enough of a wide field of view for closer work and 9 is high enough to compensate on longish shots for this cartridge, 200-300 yards.

Yeah, well I can't say it's a good reason. It's just why. If I was being practical I'd had him whack it back to 20." In the end, I'll probably screw it up worse and hang a brake on it. Depends on the recoil. But if I do, right now I'm tempted to have him whack an inch or so of barrel off.
