VX-2 vs VX-II

I'm getting ready to buy one of these scopes, hoping someone may have some personal experience. The 2 is a 3-9x40 and despite what Leupold says on their specs, weighs in at 10oz. The II is supposed to weigh in at about the same, but probably a bit less, and is a 3-9x33. I have heard the light and FOV leaves a lot to be desired but unfortunately i cannot find one around town to check out. I can get either for around the same price, 50$ more on the II.
These are the only two scopes i am considering due to their weight. Hopefully one of you fine gents can shed some firsthand light on them

I'd for sure trade a couple ounces, the newer coatings, and the 40mm bell on the 2, vs the II.
How come the II is more $$?
I am looking at these two all because of weight, i won't go over 10oz, which is why i am not looking to cash in a deale discount on higher end glass. The scope currently on the gun is a porky 18oz and it barely clears the cut out on the bolt handle. Leupold makes an even lighter II in 2-7x32 but i do not think it will fit themounts
Except for the twilight lens system, it has all the features of a VX 3.
That being said, I'd probably give up an ounce and a half, go with the VX-3 2.5-8x36 for the same money.
I'd trade the light gathering of the bigger objective, combined with the better lens coatings, for 1.5oz and 1x.
Wait, you scored a sheep tag??? Holy crap, lemme know what bullets you want and I'll keep them in mind when I hit the big city LGSs twice a month or so.
Geez, a sheep tag. You could suck start a Harley.
No, but I need a sheep rifle
I'm hunting mule deer above timberline IN sheep country, which in my unit means 11,5 and up...which is where the sheep in the unit live. If I see good numbers though, I'll snag a ewe tag next year, those don't take lifetimes to draw.
I'm trying to find the 130gr Barnes TTSX in .308
Dan, by VX-II I think you mean the Vari X II. The VARI X II is the same scope as the newer VX-1. The newer VX-2 is what used to be the old Vari X III. It is a step up from the Vari X II, and a good scope. If you have the money, get the VX-2. If not, or if it boils down to a weight saving issue, the Vari X II is still a good scope. As for splitting hairs weight wise, that sort of thing is not an issue with me because there's no timberline to hunt above around here, LOL!
That silver thing I have atop my 9.3 is a Vari X II. It's a good solid scope.
Son that's somebody with nothing to do with his time but keep me in trouble with mom.
This is probably no help at all
However I'll give it a go.
I've had, Vari x 111, Vx 111 and VX3 Scopes
Still have VX 111 and VX 3
The difference between the Vari X 111 and Vx 111 is noticable, the difference twixt the VX111 and VX 3 is not so noticable , but is apparently in the erector system and a twilight lens system which I have never been able to work out.
The VX111 having a single erector the vx3 having a double [as has the Weavers for years].
I have VX111 on my 30 06 and a VX3 4x14x40 LR with M1 Turrets fitted on my Kimber Varmint.
I used to have a VX3 4,5x14x40 LR with leupold fitted M1 Turrets on one of my 6.5 x55 Sako's but sold it and put a S&B PM11 on there.
All up MHS the VX2 is going to be a better scope the VX11.
Damn I hope thats decipherable.

Weight is the issue, more then anything
