Oh, yeah, Pel, re. San Antonio (how's that for thread drift?)... the city is in Bexar county and that's pronounced "bare", a silent x. So you'll not be chucked at behind your back, dude.

"Sir, could you please tell me how to get to Bexar county?" ("who was that guy? ...beats me... had California plates...")

Reminds me of living in AZ and hearing driving directions to Gee La Bend (Gila i.e Hee La) or Mog-oh-lon Rim (Mogollon i.e Muggy-own) hahahaha!!

That last one was kinda big. I wonder how big a star has to be to make a diamond core when it collapses(star big enough to do Lithium fusion to make carbon)? Like this one.

Historical Inquiry Sam...do you have any idea when and why the common pronunciation of Bexar changed from the Old Spanish "Bay-Har" to the "Bare" Texans use today?

About the time Santa Ana was shown the door.
It's a source of great pride for me, that when my name is googled, one finds book titles and not mug shots. Daniel C. Chamberlain

Rosie O'donnel is out of the competition? Wait...she's no longer a star.

Actually I've heard it both ways, and Bay-Har is the more precise Spanish, but hey, Spanglish is common all across the southwest, and it's morphed into "Bare". Either is correct and will be accepted by SA folks.

Pel also needs to be aware that the cops just conducted a huge prostitution sting in San Antonio, arresting lots of street girls and pimps. I'm just saying that this may alter his newcomer recreation plans a bit, but there you go.

Perhaps these gals should find a new profession and be introduced to astronomy. I could show them the wonders of the night sky and our Milky Way galaxy such as the Galactic Bulge and Ejecta Blanket.

    I especially liked Ejecta Blanket!

One more little sidebar warning. Driving around in Texas w. California plates isn't a problem and you'll probably do same as I did, wait till the registration expires, which is technically legal, I think. And there are plenty of California escapees in Texas who join you in the vehicle crowd.

However, a warning... Should you decide to take a side trip to our lovely neighbors to the south, Mexico, be aware that California-plate vehicles returning into Texas from Mexico are given intense attention by border patrol, looking for mules.

And you'll also be quite pleased when you do get Texas plates, since our registrations are not based on vehicle value as in California. Lots cheaper!
