Let's refresh the idea of the thread - if the "free brick of 22LR ammo" was .270 instead, how long would the thread run?

You could just go ahead and send it to me. But, it better be good stuff, because my stuff shoots 3/8" 5-shot groups.

If the target isn't very far away.

And is larger than your average milk truck.

Nope, he never hit anything with the 270......

.... that used to get all defensive and "butt hurt" ANY time someone didn't think the 270 was the "be all end all".
And apprently they still do
    The "butt hurt" has begun.

    MAYBE, this will ease it.

If the .270 is such hot poop on a stick, then why did the .308 Win. get necked down to 7mm instead of .270? Just guessing on my part, but I bet it goes to that lack of bullet selection thing for the .270 and that enormous selection for the 7mm.

Just looking at one retailer, there are 88 bullet selections for .270 from 110 to 180 grains, and for 7mm there are 104 selections from 120 to 180 grains and of those selections the 7mm has many more match/target selections to choose from in the list.

Back when I got my first .30-06 there were 2 choices of bullet weight for the .270. Those were flat base 135 and 150 grain, either in round nose or spire point. The old '06 had selections from 110 to 220 in a huge selection of flat base round nose and spire point, and many more in boattail in soft point and hollow point, and many match/target choices.

And I could buy a box of 50 surplus .30-06 cartridges for a couple bucks or less, and a case of 1000 rounds that cost less than shipping. Now, given that choice, why would I even consider the .270 and factory only ammo in two bullet weights when I could have it all and a bag of chips with the '06? Even at the ripe old age of 10 I could see which side of the fence had greener grass! :rotflmao:

Forget it. I never heard of a, what is it now? A 720? or a .207? I never heard of it. I had something I think was almost like it but I sold it in a garage sale.

It also makes poop erupt out of a bucket nicely, no?

No, that was the mighty 6mm Remington. Had it been the even mightier .270, I'd probably still be in the shower.

When I was in high school I shot at a snake in a particular muddy field at close range, about 5 feet, with a 12 ga.. There was mud everywhere, all over the gun, and I was muddy from head to foot. I don't even want to think about if the barrel would have been suspended over a pooh bucket. This actually happeded to me more than once.

:jester: Just a little excitement that is all Zee. I mean I could do what I did with the one I owned in the late 70's(Winchester Model 70) and one in 1984 Custom Mauser Action Build, and the last one a Ruger in 1993 All three were very accurate and deadly. I am sure if I bought one again and ran it through its paces, you know an out of the box .270 (Savage to make it real interesting) and did the load work coming up with some specific hunting loads that were highly accurate and killed everything I shot with it, I would have to hand out some Boudreaux's. Just saying.... :jester::jester::jester: Did you say :queen: So, I won't, but it did cross my mind. :jester:

I haven't piped up on this thread since I only own one centerfire rifle, my Marlin 336. I have no experience with all the other calibers. But after reading the posts I feel real good about my lever gun. Using Alec's calculations my 30-30 has a power factor of 900! Time to go hunt Gozirra!!!! Okay big rizard, come get some!!!
